Hitachi Air Compressor

Hi, I have a Hitachi gas driven air compressor that the drive motor runs good, the belt is driving the compressor, and it trys to compres air but will not. I took the head off (Single lung) and placed my hand over the holes and it does try to push my hand off and suck it in so I know there is plenty of compression coming out from the compressor cylinder, but when I try putting the head back on the air goes in and out of the intake. I think maby the reeds and or head gasket may be going bad, but I have another job coming up in a few days were i will need to use it and i just wanted some opinions on what the problem may be if anyone knows. I would buy and replace the reeds and head gasket, but if anyone knows of any other problems that may be causing this i would like to get all the parts at one time. Basically in a nutshell if i remove the line and stick my thumb over the pipe leading away from the compressor to the tank the air just goes in and out the intake.
Thanks

Re: Hitachi Air Compressor

Definetly sounds like a valve problem. Can you call Hitachi and get a rebuild kit, or maybe the name of a local stocking parts distributor so you can pick one up?

Possibly an internet supplier tha can quick-ship parts.
