HighTech Air Hose

I saw this in a recent Fine Homebuilding magazine and was wondering if anyone has seen or has used this brand of air hose. Looks to be easier to build custom length hoses.

Only comes in 3/8"... I use 1/4" flexeels only. If you need custom lenghts just buy a 100' and cut up as needed. That is what I did. I know you can buy the 1/4" in 250' rolls as well. But I think anything over 100' would become unruly.

Re: HighTech Air Hose

Haven't used in construction but had similar in other fields. You need to cut the end square to get a seal but thats not a big deal.

The stuff I've used before deforms a little everytime you connect it, not a problem for those applications but if you unhook your tool everyday it could add up. Simple to just trim back the hose but its something to be aware of.

My biggest problem is the checkvalve; the one on the site looks like it would go at the compressor. So when you unhook a tool (say switch from a nailer to stapler) the pressure in the hose gets dumped

yep...but i don't cut up new ones. sure as shiit a couple days after i buy a new flexeel hose somebody cuts threw it or something. Then i cut them down to different sizes. I had a sub who tossed a cigarette off the roof(after i told him no smoking near any wood ..i.e. house). It hit my hose two floors down and burnt a hole in it.

ummm how would your gun get air??? Try thinking before posting, it helps us cut down on the clutter.

I don't even know where to start. Take some of your own advice.

Seeings how you want to cut down clutter I'll spell it out now instead of bantering back and forth. I'm not sure what part of my post needed more thinking so I'll go through everything you quote:

Checkvalve - you need this to keep from emptying your compressor every time you unhook a tool. In a regular air q/d its contained in the female section. In a typical setup you have one right at the compressor, where the male end of your hose goes in. Once that piece is in the valve is held open and pressurizes your line up to the next female q/d. Connect your tool and then its pressurized. I don't know how to make this simpler

checkvalve at the compressor - the only place a checkvalve will keep a hose from dumping when you change tools is at the tool side. From the site it looks like their checkvalve goes at the compressor. So best possible situation is that if you unhook your tool its a magic checkvalve that only dumps the line, or else its a standard mechanical one that will leak the compressor. Way around this? Run down to the compressor, unhook the hose there (only dumping the hose - can't get around that), swap tools and reconnect to compressor

unhooking a tool - you've never had to switch tools? Its a common jobplace occurance

If you think I'm talking down to you its because I am. Just responding in kind
One more thing - you are not your post count

Edit: If anyone has any experience with this hose I'd love to hear it. I'm always up for new tools but I can't see this being useful to me

Sorry I misread your post a little. I thought you were suggesting it had one of these magic checkvalves, perhaps I should take my own advice.

flexeels rule. 3/8's only for me, although the 1/4 is nice for finish nailing

Re: HighTech Air Hose

I use a flexeel also. Nice and light. I've noticed they're starting to sell them at Home Cheepo now. I think a 100' is about $50.
