Hammer Drills

I need a new hammer drill for light concrete and masonary. I do a lot of deck work so I would also like it to be light enough to use it for by carriage bolt holes. Any suggestions?

Re: Hammer Drills

I have a Hilti T15. Great gun, not too big and has the smooth drill operation too. Wish it had the hammer only, but oh well. Got it cheap from a retired concrete guy.

I've had a Black & D. Macho for 16 years and love it. Don't think you'll find one new in box but it's the smaller scale and adequate for what I need it for. My first DeW cordless has a hammerdrill feature but I haven't found anything light enough for it's light capability, just a funny shaped vibrator to me.

Re: Hammer Drills

I have 1 Milwaukee, 2 Bosch's, and a Hilti. The Hilti is great, but I like the Bosch's too. Either will serve you well. I am not real impressed with the Milwaukee. The SDS and SDS-MAX bits are available at many places, even Home Depot carries them.

I would lean more towards the Bosch, generally they are less pricey than Hilti and just as good IMO. I like the ones with the hammer only featre as well for those times when you need to do a little chipping in block or concrete.

Re: Hammer Drills

After using only HILTI for better than 20 years I've had one of these for almost 3 years now (11241EVS- SDS max). I's been great. I won't go back to HILTI products.

Nice one Pipe. That's the one I've had my eye on for a future task. Finalized my process.

Re: Hammer Drills

Got a t-15 hilty, but it is kinda of big for most of the drilling I typically do. My Bosch BullDog is my go to tool, Light, strong and fast for holes up to 3/4 -7/8.

Re: Hammer Drills

All I can say is Bosch or Makita SDS or SDS Max.
I have a Bosch Bulldog 3/4" and a Makita ?4000 SDS Max.
Both great tools.
I have used Milwaukee SDS drill and they are nice as well.

Two other opinions:
1) Hilti is a beautiful tool. EXTREMELY overpriced though for a tool that is not much better than the competition.

2) Forget "rumble bump" hammer drills. You know the ones that are regular 1/2" drills with a "hammer" function. IMO these are a joke for more than the occassional small hole. Or possible drilling in only block.

i'm with mike on this one, i have the 1 1/8 milwaukee and haven't had any major problems with it, it has the hammer only mode which gets used for chipping up old tile for remodel jobs. i also have 3 cordless drills, one older portercable 19.2 hammer/driver, and 2 new loktor milwaukee 18v with hammer mode. those have been great drills also, although, the milwaukee batteries tend to just die one day and never charge or even turn the drill the littlest bit, they just go completely dead. not sure why that happens. the porter cable cordless hammer is 5 years old and still on the original batteries, that drills works great.
