Got Some Pail Liners

I'll be the first to admit I'm a wasteful basturd In the begining I used to wash out my bucket after mixing up mud, grout, thin set, etc...but as I got a lil more business and time literally turned into money I just started buying cheap 5 gallon pails (used to get them for free from drywall buddy but they all switched over to the boxed stuff here

Anyways, being fruitful I love throwing away a mess that I dont have to deal with, but did'nt want to throw away any more money than I had to and had a vision about making some sort of heavy guage plastic liner for my buckets, came home and did a goggle search and naturally it's already out there Contacted this company via e-mail and was told they would send out 2 liners for free that should work with what I was looking to use them for for free so long as i paid shipping-otherwise you must buy lots of 100+...told them I did'nt want 100 liners if my mixer broke through and proved them unusable so wanted a small quantity to try out first-woould've sucked having 99 liners left over and no where to use them .

ordered them Fri affternoon via faxed in form and recieved the box of 20 today (I ordered 10) I took one out and hopefully they'll hold upto the mixer chucked in my 1/2" drill, they seem to be made out of a material that could possibly be prone to cracking in cold temps if left in the van, but after sitting in the house awhile they seem pliable enough to withstand repeated bumping from my mud mixer (wanna say their site listed this model liner at 15mil. $1.63/ea if you buy the smallest lot they offer of 100...and it'd take me a few years to go through 100 liners so once I get a job to try them on it will determine an order or not to order.

If you have any use for a product like this check out their site and see if they have what you need. http://www.thecarycompany.com/Main.html

If you currently use a pail liner and know where to get them cheaper, please forward/offer any links as I'm open for suggestions.

Josh

Re: Got Some Pail Liners

There's a Rib place near me, at the beach that's only open in the summer. Place is packed 7 nights a week. They get their sauce in 5 gal plastic buckets and just set them out for the trash guys to pick up. I go by every so often and slip the head cook $10 and take as many as I can carry. They are already rinsed out so the rodents won't attack them. It's a great deal. I'm like you...I have better things to do than clean out a bucket on a cold, nasty day.
New buckets have gotten expensive all of a sudden. Must have something to do with Iraq.

I caught 5 gallon buckets on sale at the end of the summer at Walmart for under $2.00 each. I bought about 30 of them, but I should have bought more. I'm down to my last 10. I'm with you guys, it sure is nice to chuck that bucket at the end of the day instead of doing the drudge work of cleaning it out.

I normaly chuck buckets too however I dont go through as many as you guys do I dont deal with drywall mud. And concrete is not bad if its still wet but if it dries a little bit I just chuck it. I did buy a bucket the other day for $4.97 I should have gone to wally world but I was at depot replacing a misplaced concrete drill bit that I found the next day on the jobsite in the sawzall box?? dunno why I put it there.

Rich, have'nt had a chance to use them yet. been on a window spree lately

Later today, I will throw a liner in a bucket and chuck up both style mixers I have and beat on it with no contents and see what happens and report back.

With regard to free buckets. The best trick I found is to tell the little spackler dude that my drywall sub sends out to tape and sand is that part of my deal with HIS boss is that he needs to clean out all the buckets he uses for my jobs real clean for me.

10 buckets later, he still hasn't caught on that I'm completely making this up. I find it amusing that he just does it without bitching. Ahhh...to be from a former Yugoslavian republic again...

Re: Got Some Pail Liners

LOL at the bucket cleaning slave

I've used the samples thus far for mortor, grout, and alot of hot mud and they are great, I dont feel bad throwing away perfectly good buckets anymore and these liners can be stacked in themselves like buckets, 10 liners are no taller than a typical 5 gallon pail. At first I was worried they might be brittle with the cold temps, but have not cracked any thus far and that's leaving them in the van with the sub zero temps and using first thing in the morning. I use a swirl type mixer instead of a paddle so there's no real edge to get caught on anyting since the end is round and smooth, even with constant high speed mixing duties no cracks or break throughs. very tough and exceeded my inital expectations.

I have not had any spin in the bucket yet, they fit in rather snug when inserting down into the bucket, so I think that fact plus weight of material and how I mix it just does'nt produce enough force to spin them, not to mention they are pliable enough that I think they would twist and lock themselves into the bucket before they'd give up the ghost and start free wheeling....imagine a racing slick on a drag car how it winds up on launch and I think this is what would happen to the liner to prevent spinning.

I'm very pleased and will now order a bulk load once I get low on the stock I currently have, so nice to only have to carry 2 buckets now, 1 for inital water and then clean up and the other for inserting liners into!! I would say a must have for guys that use alot of buckets.

Hey Josh, you sold me on them enough to give them a try. You said you ordered them off that site? Do you know the part number?

Re: Got Some Pail Liners

I actually e-mailed them first for info and they faxed me over an order sheet, but when I place my next order I'll just do in online for simplicity sake, hate sending out cc #'s over the fax, dont know why, just makes me nervious

Product number 77WPPL
Description: 5 gallon HDPE Plastic Pail Liner

Sucks you have to buy lot sizes, but as cheap as they are and easy to store it's a non issue since it makes life soo much easier and your gonna use them all anyways.

Re: Got Some Pail Liners

Thanks Josh, there they are "plastic pail liners"! I wish they would put prices on their site. You said about $1.60 each?

Hey, are they sturdy enough to use as a bucket for say clean up water to wipe something down?

Re: Got Some Pail Liners

Yeah, I think like $1.63 or something like that, even less if you order more if I remember correctly? I had a few emails from them initally and I have'nt been able to find them for reference-sorry.

Funny you should ask about holding stuff. One day I forgot a small bucket to change out a toilet so I used a liner...cut it down so it fit nice and snug in the dark corner and stuffed it back there...worked great. Recently I needed a water bucket for my tile saw (I rerigged the pump with a long hose so it's always in a bucket of fresh water) and thought what the heck; took a liner into the kitchen sink and filled it over 3/4 full. It was VERY hard to carry since it's flexible and slippery LOL, but I set it next to the saw and it stood tall all day.

Once you get some it's easy to understand how they are, they are flexible yet strong.

Re: Got Some Pail Liners

Ordered 100 of the liners today. They come out to be just under $2.00 apiece with shipping, which is a great price, plus the added benefit of being much smaller to store vs 100 5 gallon buckets. Looking forward to seeing how these work out. Thanks for the heads up.

Re: Got Some Pail Liners

Schweet, have to lemme know how you like'em once you burn through a couple. We were just doing a buddies bathroom and I let my drywall buddy use a couple to mix up his texture, even he loved 'em since clean up is lickety split. Said when they used bucket mud it was'nt soo bad as they'd have 30-40 buckets a week, but they switched to Gold Bond boxes and have lost all inventory in buckets due to giving them away to guys like us. Guess he's going to order a lot also.

On another note, not real impressed with my zip walls. riding around in the van I lost 2 of the plastic clips that pinch the plastic to spring loaded end and van monster musta ate them, so I hate to order new ones. Also they dont seem to have the holding pressure they once used to either. I'm going to try out the ratchet type that was linked in an old thread and see how they work out...might work better since it's aluminum construction ratchet design and only $30/ea as opposed to $58/ea from zip wall.

Re: Got Some Pail Liners

did some searching on google
mroliners.com has liners @ $1.20 for 5 gallon and just $0.90 for a 2 gallon bucket liner. Looks like their shipping is a bit cheaper as well.
