Generator

I am about to buy a generator. Other than honda, anyone have a favorite? I will be gutting houses and rehabbing them. This is a 6 year project.(not one house) Should I get a large enough one for all the subs to use? Or let them supply their own and calculate that into their bid. These are the questions ive been asking myself. Im thinking 5000 -6500 watts for my guys (3).

Re: Generator

Honda powered gensets are more expensive, quiet and reliable. I'll go for them every time. I'll never understand why B&S has never addressed this.

Re: Generator

if you need it to last 6 years then you should go with one that at least has a honda engine.

Re: Generator

I take back what I said. Wacker makes a professional generator. With regular maintance will last at least 6 years.

Re: Generator

If you want other trades to be able to use it, then you will need one like the rentals have that you tow behind.
Just make sure whatever you get it can handle the compressor and circ saws or a table saw all running at the same time. In fact if you will only be using a generator for power I would recomend a gas powered compressor. Then you have 1 less item running off the generator.

Re: Generator

Yea... I have a gas compressor. I will be the one using most of the juice. I figure mechanicals will be limited to one tool at a time.

I agree totally, my local rental yard has them and they run like champs.
Always keep in mind the cost of ownership when buying gas powered equipment. They cost alot of money and can cost alot of time when they break down. Spending an extra $500-1000 at the outset may seem like alot until you get several $100 repair bills or worse + lost time.
Don't forget to add the extra $$$ to your bids to cover fuel and maintenance holdback.

Re: Generator

I would recommend at least a 12KW Gen. I just bought a Kipor Diesel Gen set that I have hooked up to my trailer.
