Festool

Has anyone used this brand? I have had the jigsaw for a year and a half now and it lives up to the quality they promised, but am looking to start buying "shop tools" for the cabinetry work and such. The jig saw is pretty impressive, I have cut 1" oak with it and had no blade sway through the radials at all as I was trying to disprove what they stated about it. They have the 1/2 " collet router out now and I was eyeballing it as the next addition.

Re: Festool

Snapp, I don't have any yet, but they are on my lust list. Everything I've seen about them, including no sway in the jig blade, makes them worth the price. My first item will be the jig saw, and then I'd like to get their random orbit sander.
Let us know if you get the router.
The local Woodcraft store here does demos, maybe you could try one out first.

Re: Festool

There is a supplier in Lorton, I think their name is Fries bealle and sharpe? They actually have the tools on display and ready for demo upon visit (checked out the jig saw there). I live in Front Royal now and what used to be a drive down the street to them is now an 1 1/2 hour drive on a good day. Still short as compared to Delaware, but if you were wanting a feel for them, it's there. The main warehouse for shipping USA is in Winchester (next door to Front Royal) but they won't come off a display model. I ordered the jig saw through festool.com and got it the next day on my doorstep. I may swing by F,B & S one day but by the time I commute 70 miles to Alexandria and put in 50 miles or better running services for METRO I'm not mentally ready to lengthen the 70 mile commute back home through the throngs of people in a hurry to slow down. Once the bid's accepted for bar/ent. center I put in for I may just order w/o any more than what I know about them since I'm very happy with (what I thought was something that couldn't be heightened) their jigsaw. After that Is the drill. Are those run on sentences? Will post for the group when I pick it up.

Re: Festool

I splurged last August and bought their ATF55 Plunge saw, CT22E dust extractor, jigsaw, drill and 6" dual mode sander along with the large multi-function table. I mainly work alone and need tools that enable me to do work I ordinarily could not do. Festool does this. The TDK12 drill with its interchangeable chucks has saved me on several countertop installs where I just could not get at the screws. The plunge saw and table combination are just as functional as a panel saw and much more portable. The sander combined with Festool abrasives and dust extractor simply does a faster and better job of sanding lacquer and poly finishes.

Re: Festool

Hi my son and I have had this saw for nearly a year, we have it hooked up to a vac, if we didnt we would be knee deep in MDF dust. Have used 2 hs 55 (1200 watt motor) these are very light and a joy to use but when you are cutting 22mm moisture resistant mdf at an angle of 45 degrees the small saw struggles. We make walk in clossets, wardrobes, splayed window linings, extra wide door casings in mdf (20 in) its like having a slidding table pannel saw on site, With the 8ft straight edge plus 800mm extention piece plus to joining strips and fine toothed blade the cost was allmost 700 GBpounds (1330 dollars)
THis is a lot of money, I get £135 pounds for 8 hours work a Day, on a self employed basis, but we would not be able to produce the quality of work without this saw period. We work for footballers, Manchester United etc, they wont have anything but the best.
Have a Mag 77 for framing and stud work, I think this saw is also fantastic, but for diiferent purpose.
Festool when only the best will do. no cracks about the spelling please

We're not paying you to spell. Get back to posting all those cool pictures.

I agree, Festool is one company that doesn't oversell their product and delivers what they promise.

Re: Festool

Thanks Carl.
I dipped my toes in the water with the jigsaw and loved it. Took a step into the water with the router/dust ext. system and it still felt good. I am now over waist deep in it, and I'm looking to get my hair wet. There's nothing I've bought of theirs, that I wouldn't buy again if I had it to do all over. Like was said above, it's like a portable cabinet shop. Amazing.
