DW718 Heck Of A Deal @ Lowes...you Heard Me Lowes

I went ahead and bought the Dewalt 12" sliding double compound miter saw today. I have been reading alot about the sliders here on CT and I also have been using that exact saw for awhile but it was not mine. I took into consideration all the comments posted on here but found I am really comfortable with this saw.

Any way the real reason I posted this was to tell you guys about the great deal I got on the saw.

Me and my wife were in the valley and I wanted to purchase this saw. I figured I would buy it at Home Depot for $599. Well we were near a Lowes and I wanted to just brouse around for stuff for my own house. Well we were walking buy the tools and just for sh!ts and giggles I wanted to see the price on the DW718. So I saw the sticker above the boxed saws and it said $679. Thought to myself "screw that". Then I look up at the display model and there is a tag hanging on it and it reads, $519, was $679. Then I quickly changed my mind and said "HELLS YEAH!" Loaded it up and went to the checker to check out. When she told me the total was over $700 dollars I told her that couldn't be right. I told her what the tag read on the display and of course she got a price check. Turns out someone forgot to take the tag off the display and they had to honor the tag for me. SWEET!! So I paid $519 plus tax and was smiling the whole way out.

The thing is I don't usually go to this Lowes, I go to a newer one further out of the valley, and I was dead set on getting this saw from Home Depot. So I saved $160 on good luck and good customer service(for once)

Sweet deal on the saw, that one should make you a lot of money over the years. We own a couple of them and have no complaints.

Re: DW718 Heck Of A Deal @ Lowes...you Heard Me Lowes

$400 at the Western Tool going out of business down in Manchester last month or so. Also the twin pack of 12" blades for $20. When the guy asked me how I was going to walk out the door with over $800 worth of tools for only $420, I said with a smile on. I saw that deal at Lowes though. The 12" was cheaper than the 10" the had there.

Ok although I saved a little money I guess instead of asking what to get I should be asking where to get it. Damn you guys make me feel like I didn't get such a good deal after all! Oh well I guess I should just be happy I got a new toy.

So now I need a rolling stand for it. What should I get, what price range, and where should I get it for the best price?

Don't you just hate the guys that tell you what a deal you could have gotten AFTER you bought it?

You have room in your truck for a rolling stand? I'm jealous!

la la lade dah I got that Ridgid fer only 95 bucks!!!!!!!! at homodepot a while back now it is 160 ish :}::}:}
Only downside for ME is that the stand weighs about 95 lbs :{:{:{ and I have to lift it to get into my van with the saw attached, probably close to 140 lbs Just way too heavy for me now

It's a 12" and it a has a lot of wobble with the slide assembly extended. Also, and this was the deal breaker for me, it weighs over 20lbs more than the dewalt. It's so heavy It was difficult to extend the legs on my rolling stand

ETA: its perfect for a framer who has an annoying laborer to set it up every day

I still like the double tilt feature of the Dewalt better. I am still planning on getting it for this next job.

Re: DW718 Heck Of A Deal @ Lowes...you Heard Me Lowes

I have a Delta stand similar to that but I like the outrigger style board feeds on mine.

Worked with some guys who had that one. Liked the tires on it better.

Either way unless your working commercial where you can set up in a cutroom per floor I wouldn't "permently" mount it for transport. They only had a 12" Double bevel DW no slider and it was a somanabitch to load unload.

I started with a 10" on mine but soon discovered not mounting mine to the stand( mine has a removable board that sits in the center so I remove the board, saw and all)

As far as the price you paid for your saw. If I new you needed one I could of got you one for..............JK!

Its actually 399 here and thats still hell of a deal... its lighter than the rigid but it is still pretty heavy. And as for the wobble it sounds like you got a dud because mine doesnt wobble a bit. I don't take it with me just leave it at the shop.
