Dust Collection Setups

I would like to hear some real world feedback from any of you guys that have used the small portable units. I would like to have one to hook up to my table saw, mitre saw, and jamb saw so I can cut inside during foul weather or situations like condos where you have to pack a lunch to go to the saw. I have looked around the bay and amazon and it seems like you can pick up some of the smaller ones for ~ $200, which is cheap, but how effective are they?

Re: Dust Collection Setups

Do you mean a tool-triggered vaccuum or something with a large capacity drum like in a shop.

I have a Festool vac and a Fein vac both with tool triggered options and they work astoundingly well. What you must be aware of is that the dust collection capability is more a function of the tool you are using than the collector. It's nearly impossible to capture all the dust from a SCMS, but a table saw is easier. Some tools are dustier than others by nature except Festools--you could practically cut MDF in an operating room with their tools!

I have one of the Delta P300's that I keep on the truck for the miter saw, jointer, and table saw, and the larger Delta P400 for jobs where when I set up shop right in the building or house and I expect a lot of table saw and jointer use, or need the portable planner, plus it's the one I use in the shop when it's not out on a job.

Re: Dust Collection Setups

i second the festool vac. i bought it along with the TS 75 plunge saw and it collects very well and the hose that comes with it, also connects to my dewalt CSMS and my orbital sander.
i got the model 22 because it's smaller and still has great capacity and not as bulky as my shopvac.
i never thought i'd spend that kind of money on a vac, but i'm glad I did, because i can cut inside and it captures so much of the dust, some still gets around the collector on the CSMS but much better than without any vac.
you can't go wrong with either the model 33 or 22 from festool.

Just remember that these option's are not going to be that much better for your heath just help clean up the mess. Actually running a small dust collector indoors with filter bags supplied with most of them is just going keep the dangerous dust airborne longer

I just use my shop vac on my table saw. I cuta hole in the table and have the hose there with a clamp so it sucks the dust up. And it works preety good.

My dad has one of the larger delta models for the woodshop in his basement, pretty wimpy.A shop vac works much better, more suction.
