Drywall Sanders
Has anyone used the King Drywall Sander & how does it compare to the PC one?
Link for King Drywall Sander = http://www.kingdrywall.com/?gclid=CL...FQ4hnAodsWYTEw FYI - I will not be using it for drywall. I need a sander to sand a T&G wood ceiling that was painted a few times & then had the famous popcorn texture shot on it (almost 1000 SF). The Popcorn has been scraped off, but I still have some residual mud & paint to remove. The HO wants to stain the wood after it is all cleaned up. I can either rent a PC, or for a few more bucks buy the King one. Any other idea's? (using a regular orbital sander would probably take about 40 to 50 hours - I figure with the bigger sander I could complete it in about 15 - to 20 hours) Thanks |

Re: Drywall Sanders
I think you would ruin a bunch of sandpaper with the PC or other. You need something with holes in the paper and integrated dust extraction. Or soy-gel stripper.

Thanks for replying - unfortunatly I don't see the stripper as being a viable option.

Re: Drywall Sanders
why not try this one?
http://www.dustlesstechnologies.com/...php?II=9&cat=3 i don't know if it would work any better or worse then the PC or the one you posted but at least its square it may sand the corners better ;-) i think this is an occasion where getting scaffold and laying on your back with a belt sander may be the easiest option - i am in no way saying it will be easy, but i think all the drywall sanders may not be aggressive enough to get you down to raw wood, so you can stain it. plus you have a lot of grooves to clean out to make the stain look good for the finished detail. how long would it take to install a new T&G ceiling? ;-) |

Check ebay, I have seen some tools on there that are real inexpensive lately.

Re: Drywall Sanders
s. donato - I saw the one you mentioned earlier, I can't see that working
By the way it is T&G wood not Bead Board (it is like hardwood flooring - however it is on the ceiling) & no I am not strong enough to lift a floor sander up that high, & use it for more than maybe a second I have heard people actually using the Porter Cable one on floors & wood paneling with good results - I haven't heard anything about the King one though, even for drywall work jiffy - ebay, always an option but I generally shy away from private sales without being able to test it first Thanks guys |

Re: Drywall Sanders
Sounds like a job for a Rotex and a CT dust extractor. You could have a Planex shipped in from over seas, the suction is so good on that, that it really does hold itself to the ceiling!!!!

Re: Drywall Sanders
interesting ceiling with out any type of beads in it most of the ones i see around here all have some type of bead... part of me still says using a belt sander to do the majority of the work then using a orbital to finish it would look really nice.
don't forget to get your self some sandpaper cleaner. otherwise your going to go through alot of sandpaper - well alot more ;-) http://www.mcfeelys.com/product/ABC-...aner-8quotlong if your going to go the rotex way - go fein instead they make a 8"... http://www.mcfeelys.com/product/FEIN...-Orbit-Sanders add a festool or fein vac and you would be pretty dust free ;-) |

Re: Drywall Sanders
Do you use a Festool Planex? I am considering having one shipped from the UK.

I looked into having one shipped, then I remembered that I would need to order a bunch of sand paper for it. So once I figured out it would be over 2K, I gave up. |

Re: Drywall Sanders
Forgot about this one - Warner nailed it, I used a crapload of paper, but it was completed in about a day (not down to bare wood, good enough for painting - yep HO changed their mind)
Not sure about the walnut shells, maybe one of the blasters can speak up |
