Dewalt XRP To Nano?

Has anyone purchased and used any of the DeWalt 18V NANO Lithium Battery tools? Will our tools that except the 18V XRP batteries except and perform on the Nano?

This sounds like a Mork and Mindy question...............

Most tools will accept the Nano there are only 4 or 5 tools that will not. They have done tests that show the Nano gets less run time than most XRP batteries and cost twice as much. You only get a lighter tool from Nano and a supposed longer battery lifetime. Nano isn't much in terms of a step forward.

Thanks for the reply. I ran across this issue while looking to replace a couple of Dewalt 5 1/2 cordless saws. I will stick to the XRP system which we know and love.

Re: Dewalt XRP To Nano?

I haven't had that experience with any of my Nano batteries. They outlast the XRP's by 2-3 times & more importantly, they hold a charge in the tool case for weeks (if not months). Typically, if you haven't charged a XRP battery in a few days, it is near dead. Not so with the Nano. It has an extremely low discharge rate.
I don't think a XRP battery will fit in a Nano tool because it is designed for a smaller battery. But I haven't tried it yet to see for sure. I have not paid more than $60 for a Nano battery. Shop smart on Ebay.
I'm sure Makita, Bosch & others make a good lithium battery/ tool (maybe even better than DeWalt), but until they start making the variety of cordless tools that DeWalt makes (nailers & such) then I'll have to stay with DeWalt. To have all my tools use the same batteries is not only a savings, but a convience.

Bosch has not stepped strongly into the Lithium battery market other than a few specialized tools. (super compact drivers and heavy duty 36V hammerdrills)

Makita is bringing it on the Lithium. They have a very large variety of cordless products out, it looks like they are going to give DeWalt a run for their money.

My issue with both companies is tool durability, I think they both suck. I'm not really into disposable tools and I don't consider 2 years to be an acceptable tool life, even for cordless.

I love my Makia Li-on stuff, but my drill is constantly giving me fits. I've also had two bad 1.5 batteries and one bad 3.0. My charger crapped out too.

Everything was replaced within a day by Makita so they still have me as a customer.

I agree with you on the Makita cordless- I've worked with a couple people that have them, and the batteries are rather fragile. Even if Makita has great service and replaces them quickly, you still have to go to the trouble to bring them in. With Dewalt however, I've had a different experence- my dad has had the same two 18 volt xrp drills for 8 years, and they have seen daily use, and a lot of abuse. 6 years ago, he bought a cordless saw, which hasn't seen a lot of use, but the batteries that came with it have been put to use in the drills. out of 6 batteries, he has only one that has stopped taking a charge, the other 5 will run all day long. My drill and batteries are from 2004 and still running strong, and my impact is several years old, has been dropped off scafolding, 30 feet to a rock floor, and still runs fine. When you combine that with the selection that Dewalt offers and the usefullness of always having a charged battery in the radio, I'll stick with dewalt. I do like the panasonic tools however, and if all I were buying was a drill, that's probably what I would get. I like the bosch and milwaukee cordless tools as well, but Dewalt and Panasonic are better in my opinion.

Re: Dewalt XRP To Nano?

I have had too many bad batteries with Dewalt. They are renowned for batteries that don't last. The drills don't last terribly long either. The tool house I go to has more yellow in the repair side than I like to see as well. My Makita has worked great from day one. The tools are so much lighter it makes all the difference to me. It is Ford vs Chevy it seems.
