dewalt nano batteries
These have been out for awhile now. I had three xrp's that lasted about 30 months. I'm wondering if the nano actually outlasts the old xrps. And,,, if I do accidentally drop it in a bucket of water will the lion actually explode or is that something that will only happen if the case is compromised?
Thanks.

I buy the bare tools all the time. I then buy batteries from WCBB. They rebuild tool batteries and also sell tool batteries, for about half price of a factory battery. Also their rebuilds are better than the oem's.
My 2 cents.
Thanks,
Columbo

I find that dewalt batt's are not very good imo. Stick with Panasonic And Bosch.. My 2 cents

I can't justify the high cost of the nanos.
What difference is it to me if a guy has to put another battery in the tool? When nanos are 3x the price of all the XRPs available it doesn't make much sense to me.
Now if all my work was at the top of a 5000 foot radio tower and the next battery was at the bottom of the tower then maybe it would make sense, but having to put another battery on a tool in remodeling to me is not a hardship. Not when I can get 3 XRPs for the cost of one Nano.

I've gotten into the habit of using my radio as my only battery charger, which is one big reason why I have held off getting Nano batteries. I'll probably try the Nano's when the new radio comes out.

Yeah, the radio ended up being the kicker for me too. So I've got all the tools and the radio charger and now the nano's need their own charger I have to keep track of?
Thanks for the feedback yall.

yet another case of dewalt being behind on the ball, Milwaukee was the first/2nd to come out with lithium tools and they converted their radio over to being able to charge the lithium battery's little over a year ago i believe
i find it pretty weak for dewalt to go on about how they revolutionize tools when their the one of the last companys to bring their tools up to the next level and they get recalled or their just plain crap
i was using their newer 12 sliding mitre saw last week. i was trying to figure out why it was bogging down cutting 2x, it only has a 13 amp motor in it. among other things....

Not sure what you guys are paying for the nanos but they can be found on ebay for about $80 or so. i recently bought 5 there and used a paypal discount which brought the total to $305 including shipping which is $61 per battery. i never had much luck with the xrp batteries. usually would go for about a year and a half and that was it. So far the nanos have impressed me. They hold power at least twice as long and supposedely they can be charged many more times than the xrps. only time will tell.

Dewalt holds the patent on radios that charge tool batteries. According to the Milwaukee rep that I talked to about half a year ago, Milwaukee is not going to sell a radio with a charger until Dewalt's patent runs out. The circuit boards for the radio were actually designed with space for the circuts to control a charger, so that when they were allowed to add such a feature, they wouldn't have to change very much. However, as of the home show where I talked to the Milwakee rep half a year ago, they did not sell a radio with a charger. Searching on line, I can not find a Milwakee radio for sale that advertieses a charger feature. Bosch offers a charger on their radio, and they pay a royalty to Dewalt in order to do that.

I haven't found that to be true. I wouldn't go so far as to say that they are better than all the other companies, but they are at least as up to date with their compeditors.

I agree- the 718 is a POS. The old 708 that the 718 replaced was a better saw. the 708, despite being considerably old, is still compedtive with todays saws.

I could find nothing on WCBB either.
I've liked DeWalt's for a longtime now, but last year I bought an xrp Drill/Sawzall combo. The Drill seems about as good as the xrp I bought 3 or 4 years prior, but they changed the chuck and the way it clamps is totally junk. I have no issues with bits coming loose suddenly with my old drill, but no matter how tight I get the new one it doesn't take too terribly long for it to loosen. Whoever designed that chuck should be shot.
No complaints about the sawzall.

I picked up some nano's from an ebay seller for a bit over $65/each. I wish they made them in a higher amp/hour rating-true they're lighter, but I want longer lasting.

I have 4 XRPs coming back from WCBB from being rebuilt, we shall see how they turn out.
I don't know about them being 1/2 priced on anything compared to new. With shipping and all the rest of the BS you're maybe 3/4 of the price of new.

Mike, I know you are like the king of dewlat cordless tools but, their batteries and chargers just suck. I have never had a Makita, Panasonic, Bosch, or Festool battery go bad. I have one Makita set that is several years old and the batteries still hold a charge and work great (when I have to use them).

You are probably right, the only cordless tools I own are drills. The only one I use is my C12. I guess I just dont like cordless tools that much.

I never had a problem with Dewalt batteries or chargers, I did have a problem with plastic gear boxes shattering and shafts being snapped like sticks.
