dewalt drill broken??

I dropped my dewalt xrp 18volt cordless drill today and the chuck head seperated from the drill. The drill still works but now the chuck head is detached. It looked like a clean break but when i shove the chuck head back into the drill it doesn't go in.. it looks like there is a male and female that should snap together..but it doesn't.. any ideas?? thanks!

How old is the drill? Do you have a service center near you? If not maybe go on dewalts website and see what you can come up with. My dewalt sawzall broke after about 6 months of buying it they fixed it no problem, but I have a service center by me. Personally I think dewlats drill quality is going down hill, I too dropped my 18v cordless but luckily just the case of the drill cracked so it was only like 10 bucks for a new one.

i'd definitely look for a serivce center; when you look down into the chuck, is there a screw head in the center? if it's that type maybe only the screw broke, an easy fix with the right part

if it's not an option and you're out of warranty so you'd ditch it if you can't fix it, put the drill in a vise pointing up, put the chuck in place, open it so the jaws are retracted into the chuck and strike straight down on it firmly but not super hard with a hard rubber or dead-blow mallet

some chucks actually screw in and take a good whack to set or remove

Its not worth fixing being that old. go into Ebay and you can find tons of NEW DW drills without the battery pretty cheap.

DeWalt sells individual parts, you can get the parts manual on line, pull the drill apart, find the problem and get a price on the part, if it's only a few bucks it might be worth fixing especially if you have any extra batteries for the drill.

Link to manuals (you do have to register, no big deal)
