Question

Demo Hammer W/Clay Spade

Well it looks like I am going to be needing a Demo Hammer with a Clay Spade as someone here suggested for my footing work. (Yeah, that is still going on. Just got the permits for it approved) And now that I might be needing to demo a Fireplace and Chimney I am thinking I should pick up a used one.

Whats your suggestions? I can't seem to find which is the best one to use with the spade. I don't want a huge one. I need something we can handle down in a tight spot.

I am also thinking I could weld up some old bits and make a long reach bit for when we need to do the chimney.

Do what do you guys suggest? Anyone work with a clay spade before?

I use a clay spade on my 42 LB hitachi and it rocks. I use it for demo work as well (not the spade) and I like it a lot. I would only consider the hilti as an alteranative.

Re: Demo Hammer W/Clay Spade

goto a HD tool rental, I bought a $1200 hilti http://www.hilti.com/holcom/modules/....jsp?OID=-9328 demo hammer with a wide, narrow and point chisles for $500. far as welding chisles it can be done and will last for a while as long as you taper both ends to meet with a little flat in the middle, I did that once for a spline drive hitatchi, but it eventually broke, I have searched high and low for a longreach (20"+) and came up empty. I took a $20 digging bar and a chisle to a local machine shop and had them cut to length and machine it to the same as the chisle, have had it for about 5 years now with no problems
