Deal Or No Deal
Just saw in HD they have a 12" Rigid or Milwalki mitre saw for $525 with a free stand. I figure the stand most be worth $200.
What do you guys think |

Come on no one thinks this is a deal I was back in there today and the stand is $179.
Not sure why I am just looking for someone to say buy or dont buy plus a reason |

Andy,
Read the threads here. Pretty much anything you buy in Home Depot will crap out on you. Could be a great deal. But how much of a deal is it if it fails and then you have to service it over & over because it was faulty from the start? Is it a Sliding Compound Miter Saw? What kind of stand is it? The ridged saw although got good reveiws from fine home building is geared towards Home Owners, i find it good for lumber or decking,and even that i probably would not buy it to bulky!
The milwaukee saw looks like it has some nice features,But its a monster to lug around,And that dustbag makes your saw look like its got a FULL DIAPER hanging from it!  Could be a good Shop saw though!i see alot of guys bringing these huge saws to ajob that only requires 10 cuts or so of 3" cab crown, or running shoe,3" base,Etc. chk out new makita ls1016 or Festool kapex if your alergic to dust  Both have 12" cutting capacity in a 10" saw

Get your self a proper saw like the new makita and then just get a stand like the dewalt stand. Makita now ship their saw stand in the US but it's pricey. Your better of with a nicer saw and a cheaper stand. the dewalt one i picked up for around $150 has done me proud and it's easy to move around.

I had heard that HD tool although they carry the same tool number are cheaper versions then what you would get from a tool store. Is that what you mean. |

I have been looking at those dual usage miter saws from U.K. for a while and I finally found a website that will ship to the U.S. Heres the link for this saw http://www.toolstop.co.uk/bosch-gtm1...saw-110v-p5690. They even list tools in dollars. I haven't ordered anything yet but I have my eye on some extra wide material supports for my Dewalt miter saw stand. If anyone does order from them let me know how it goes.

Check and see if you can get the dewalt version over here. i aint seen it but you may have better luck trying to find it. The great thing is the UK uses 240v and 115v tools but the stinger is the exchange rate and shipping. |

I will second that. It's urban legend. If it were true, I think you would have a hard time buying parts. I have never tried to buy parts for my tools and have the guy ask me if it's the Home Depot version. Yes, they do sell some of the lower end products from manufacturers, but I seriously doubt that there is any difference in two items with identical product numbers, whether they are bought at HD, Lowes, or your favorite contractor supply or tool monger. All these stories come from a "friend of a friend who works for xyz." I still have not been shown anything that resembles proof. |

Anderson--If you are in the market for a 12" chop saw those are good prices.
I just bought a 12" slider a few months ago--I looked at them all and got the DeWalt. I do a lot of trim work so I need a saw with crown stops--No go for Rigid The Milwaukee looked good-I especially liked the work light. I'm old-that one was to heavy. DeWalt was my choice--The stand was of no interest to me--I do trim-trimmers want a solid work table with a fence,Rollers don't do much for supporting trim. I'll likely bring my good old Delta along on big crown jobs--Just like the old thing.--MIKE-- |

$525 for a miter saw and stand made in China is not about the stand being free. Keep in mind, Milwaukee is now the same company that makes Ryobi, Rigid, and other off brand cheap tools.

The failures stopped when I stopped buying my power tools at a home center for homeowners (namely, Home Depot) and began buying them from Contractor Supply stores for Professionals. Coincidence? I think not. I put 2 and 2 together and got 4. My insider buddy warned me about HD and their source for brand name tools and it came to pass. I'm not saying that Contractor Supplier power tools NEVER fail, but I guarantee you that HD power tools fail far more than Cont. Supp. power tools do. My word and experiences don't have to be proof to you. But I have no reason to lie and every reason to warn my fellow professional tradesmen about my experiences so that they could avoid the same problems I had.
