Custom Tamper

As you could imagine, we dig a lot of deck footings.

We've been using an 8x8 plate tamper to prep our footing holes before the tubes go in. The only problem we found is that the handle is 40" long and the holes are 36" deep! It's been a pain to use.

One of my guys' next door neighbor is a mobile welder. He took customized our tamper with a two section metal handle so we can drop it in a hole and tamp while standing up.

What a morale booster. Best $25 I ever spent!

That is pretty slick idea, might have to get off my ars and weld myself up one. I went the even cheaper route and grabbed a 8" offcut of 6x6 drilled a hole to match the biggest closet rod I could find at HD and use that. Looks a little ghetto but it works, but I like your solution more. Now all I have to do is find where the hell I stored my tamper...
