Cordless Drills

Hi there, Im trying to decide on a cordless drill and impact driver, ive narrowed it down 3.

Makita LXT 18 Volt Hammer/Drill/Driver + Impact driver.
-Have heard nothing but good reviews.

DeWalt Nano 18 Volt Hammer/Drill/Driver + Impact driver.
-Any experience with the new line?

Bosch 18 volt Brute Tough Drill Driver + Impact driver.
-I like bosch corded tools, but i think this one is behind the first two.

Im a carpenter and woodworker so these will mostly be used on wood.
I appreciate the help.

As far as I know, most woodworking guys have always preferred the Panasonic drivers/drills. I can personally vouch for the EY6432NQKW but check out the EY6950GQKW.

Re: Cordless Drills

I am a fan of bosch products and I have the bosch 18v cordless drills. I think they are very good drills and I don't have anything bad to say about them. I also have the Makita 18v drill combo and I have to say it is the best drill set I have ever used. It is light with and built tough. They also have led lights that are awesome! I don't care for Dewalt tools.

Re: Cordless Drills

Go to 'search' on the header and type in 'cordless drills'. This has been a hot topic for years.

I finally got a bad battery with the Panasonics, it'll still run most of the day. The rest still run like I bought them yesterday. Not bad for being 4 yrs. old.

I got the Makita Compact. Love it. 15 minute charge time. Good power [450 in/lbs] and the light is great. Very light and compact. The full size drill has balls and the full size battery is 3 AH with a 25 minute charge time. It has a 3 speed transmission and 560 in lbs of torque. Both great choices.

For the price, light weight, and power I recommend Makita LXT. Mine has been nothing but good to me.

Re: Cordless Drills

I really like my makita lxt 18 volt during the summer and warm months, light weight, built in hooks. However, when its cold forget about those batteries, some days I'd like to go back my old Dewalt 18 volt setup. I will say after they warm up from use they are better but they cool off quick

Re: Cordless Drills

I would go with the Makita combo all the way. I used to be a Dewalt guy, but Dewalt is going to garbage!

Re: Cordless Drills

Stay away from the Dewalts. After replacing/repairimg them on a regular basis for a couple of years, I finally listened to my guy at the local contractor supply house and bought the panasonics. 15.4 w/ nmhi batteries. Be sure to get 3.5ah batteries, some of the cheaper prices you see on internet sites come with the 3.0 ah. IMO, this tool is to the cordless world what the PC690 series routers are to the router world, the benchmark for comparison. I know some guys who have Bosch and are happy with them also.

Re: Cordless Drills

I have the Makita LXT hammerdrill/driver and the impact driver. I've had great luck with them, except when I dropped the drill and it stopped running. Service center repaired it for free though. The led lights are very handy. I haven't had a problem with the cold weather on the drills, but the circ saw bogs down when the batteries are cold.

Re: Cordless Drills

I have the ridgid set. the impact is awesome, the double 30 min. charger is awesome, and with the lifetime warranty you can't go wrong.

Re: Cordless Drills

You have got to be kidding about the Makita LXT. It cost $500 and has gone through 6 gearboxes in one year. Most comfortable, lightest handiest drill I ever had but it won't stand up to building decks. And now my one battery has died. It is a piece of junk. I am now down to one battery and no third gear or warranty. I think I am going to try the milwaukee or dewalt nano now. My dealer won't sell them anymore as he had to stock gearboxes for his customers. He says the milwaukees are much better. I also put a milwaukee chuck on my drill because the original chuck is not very good. No carbide inserts. I can break the gearbox now in five minutes. I can strip the gears just by tightening down my chuck with a good grip.

Re: Cordless Drills

There is a reason it is the lightest drill. It is the weakest. The first time it broke we were just drilling 1/2" holes in pine 1-1/2" boards. After 20 holes it broke. My dealer says everyone's drills are doing the same. Do yourself a favour and buy anything else. It is an expensive drill and doesn't last. Even my one battery is dead. If you want a drill I will sell mine for $50 with one battery and charger and case.

Re: Cordless Drills

Look at that...as far as I'm concerned, you might as well put lingerie on it...it's beautiful!

The Drill/Hammerdrill/Driver + the Impact Driver combo kit is going for about $450.00.

I've had the privilage to try different guns and nothing comes close to DeWalt (but I've heard great things about Panasonics).

It is by far the best drill I've used.

On top of that, DeWalt drills were just tested recently and came out on top in real world testing.

DeWalt is going through their transitional phase, but some of their tools are top notch still (Drills, Saws, etc...).

For demo hammers, Miter Saws and Table Saws, Bosch.

This test should help anybody out who's looking for a drill:
