Question

Are Cordless Black & Decker Junk?

Lowes has a 24V set of black and decker tools on sale. Are these things crap? It sure looks like a nice set and a fair price. I never had any cordless B&D tools before. I have a 115V 3/8 drill I got from my grandpa for christmas about 10 years ago and its built like a tank. Some day Ill get a cordless B&D drill and give it a run for its money.

Anyone here have experience with cordless B&D tools?

Re: Are Cordless Black & Decker Junk?

B&D used to make great pro tools but are now more aimed toward the DIY'er who wants to pretend to be a pro but doesn't want to spend the money.

You're old drill is built like a tank because B&D built quality products 10 or 20 years ago. They still make quality products but sell them under the DeWalt name.

Yup I wouldn't waste my money either. I can remember a while back my dad had one of the first black and decker cordless drills and the dewalt too they were identical and were built like tanks, but not anymore even the dewlt it seems is getting very cheap

Another vote here to steer clear of b&d. They make junk now. Not that looks are everything, but you will get laughed at by construction workers and home owners alike. Or you can paint it yellow and say it's a Dewalt!!!( not much difference) ouch.

B & D is homeowner-grade, their flashy new VPX li-ion lineup is geared toward the H3 driving metrosexual set.

I like the orange, easy to see but looking at the displays at bLowes they seem chinsey.

I have several B&D cordless tools and they are defiantly not a pro tool. I use them on lite duty work only. I guess for the DYI'er they would be great

If you use it twice a year, go for it. If you use it everyday then stay away from it.
I have used Dewalts everyday for about 16 yrs and have been completely satisfied with them.

Re: Are Cordless Black & Decker Junk?

I disagree. All in all I own 8 cordless drills, three of them are 18v B&D'rs.

I bought them for $80 each. 1 reason and 1 reason only...for my employees to use.

Why? I don't trust them with anything more. They come with a 1 year warranty so I get at least 1 year out of them. 2 batteries per, 1 charger. They are surprisingly "Good enough" for most jobs. I don't feel bad anytime I hear them drop off ladders either.

They are not that bad...and for the price with a 1 year warranty you really can't go wrong. My Milwuakee and Dewalt Drills stay nice and clean in their cases ready for "Daddy's use"

The B&D take a serious lickin' and keep on tickin

SO let's add up the costs here:
1 Bosch drill, costs $200, lasts 10 years=$200
1 B & D drill, costs $80, lasts 1 year X 10=$800

But if you cant trust your employees I think b&d would be good. If they steal, drop them off roofs, in water, leave them outside, ect. Youll need one of those NASA drills to hold up to that. And at 2 million a piece Ill have to pass.

But if you can't trust your employees, why do you hire them?
