Compressor Trouble

My Ridgid compressor started acting up today. At first I thought there was not enough power from the outlet to run it but I am finding that it does not want to run on any outlet.

The compressor will attempt to cycle but cant get the motor going. It makes a gngngngngng noise and then flips the breaker. I can tap on the motor with my hammer while it is trying to cycle and the motor will start but each time it tries to cycle again it does the same thing.

Any ideas?

Sounds like you got a bad KARMA regulator Earl.
Seriously though, I have the same problem with an oil lube DeWalt. I went with an oilless and have no problem.

Sounds like maybe you might have run it a little hot, maybe scored the cylinder. Who knows? Possibly something electronic, a capacitor or something. Say hi to Randy for me

Re: Compressor Trouble

Could be a bad unloader. Their should be a pressure relief valve that takes the pressure off the pump when starting up. Sometimes they stick & don't release the pressure. Try relieving all the tank pressure, then leave valvle open when starting up. If it starts ok, it could be the unloader.

Or as mentioned by others, a blown capacitor.
