Co2 Air Tanks

Hey I was in lowes and they now carry the CO2 tanks for air tools.

Even though I already have a setup I bought this one because the tanks are smaller and lighter. It uses the paintball gun tanks and that is what I had wanted from the get go.

http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...esc&lpage=none

At my store you could buy this setup for $99 and get a free 9oz tank (filled) it also comes with an empty 9oz tank. So I got the regulator and 2 9 oz tanks for $99. Plus I have some other paintball tanks laying around that I can use with this system.

I can also buy one of these and fill the paintball tanks from my 15# CO2 that I already own.

I bought one and found that you have to follow the DESTRUCTIONS very carefully or it will destruct.
Blew out the hose on the first use and the pressure guage also crapped out.
Got a replacement (with more tanks!!!!) and haven't tried the new one yet.
The size is great, I've also got 20oz tank that hooks right up.

Re: Co2 Air Tanks

All you really need is a PB tank, and a regulator. That is what I use. Its a 20oz tank, with a regular and a 1/8'' quick connect. It is really great for my palm nailer.

Anyone ever think of a SCUBA tank? I've used them for years. 80 cu.ft. of air, the primary stage pulls it down to 125 PSI. I use them for driving air tools underwater.

On the SCUBA tanks, they have a regulator all ready built in?

I was going to do just that when I built my first CO2 setup over a year ago.

But the PB regulator that could do what I wanted was $225. Kind of silly to spend that much just on the regulator. Thats why I bought this setup. I just wanted the regulator and the 9oz tanks will probably sit around and never get used.

I use it it were I cant get a compressor, or i dont have one. Like it is nice tohave it in your bag so that you can use a impact wrench or a chisle or something like that.

Re: Co2 Air Tanks

I use a 15# CO2 in my garage so I dont have to listen to a compressor run. I also have the little portables for when bringing the trailer. Or a compressor does not make sense. It's is so much easier to grab a small tank and the nail gun when the inspector has an issue with something. Or the plumbers took out a few studs.

Re: Co2 Air Tanks

you can get ALOT of shots out of CO2 b/c it is inside of that bottle in liquid form, as the CO2 is compressed it turns to a liquid so in a 9oz tank, you have 9 oz of liquid CO2....as you fire the nailer, it uses the CO2 that is in it's gas form at the top of the cylinder. The CO2 tanks are not filled to the top with Liquid...IIRC it is something like only 1/3 or so of the tank is acutally filled. As the CO2 in gas form is used, the pressure drops just a bit in the tank. That drop in pressure allows more of the liquid CO2 to evaporate, bringing the PSI back up. CO2 tanks generally have an internal PSI of 800, as it gets colder, the pressure drops...

I use SCUBA also. I get free fills and CO2 is pricey here. I also have use the tools underwater. Got to clean them well though to get the salt out.
Cheers Jim

Re: Co2 Air Tanks

Been using the Lowes setup for almost a year. Great when only a window or 2 of trim needs to be nailed. Tanks get filled for about $3-5. Only problem I have had is the sealing ring from tank to regulator tears on tank change. Not a problem until I have none with me.
