Chisel box?

The currently running toolbox thread has reminded me of a pet peeve.

I have a half-dozen beer-budget chisels, and would like to find a small but tough box to keep them in, without having them bounce around losing the tip protectors and getting all nicked up.

Stuff that rides in my truck gets pretty seriously abused from that experience alone, so inlaid mahogany is out. Anyone have a cheap & neat solution?

I use a chisel roll.
Know what I mean?

I just keep a steel file in my toolbag to re-sharpen my old beaters as they get banged up against eachother in my disaster bag. Lately I've converted a few old soft-side tackelboxes (with removable plastic trays) into fastner and accessorie boxes, cheap and handy for little things.

I've never had much luck, long term, with roll packs. I am seriously not kidding about stuff in my truck getting abused. I carry way more than I should, trying to be prepared for anything that comes up--and it all gets wedged and pounded into every little nook & cranny of available space.

Especially at the end of a long day at the end of a long week.

If it's not a pretty tough hard case, it doesn't stand much chance of surviving.

I have one beater that rides in my toolbelt. It gets touched up with my 4" grinder as necessary. The other chisels aren't top-drawer by any means, but I keep them hand-honed. That's just not bag material.

Sometimes mine will ride around
for months unused, sometimes
they come out every day, never
a problem coming loose.
I keep the roll in the bottom of
the 28" carpenter's box.

Same here, though I foresee even less use now that everyone on the block is putting out a Multimaster at reasonable prices.

Maybe I'll just ask my wife to make me a rollpack out of Kevlar.

I have mine sheathed with 6" lengths of braided pvc tubing. The various diameters fit nicely over each chisel. I have them all in a canvas zipper bag.
