Bosch Slider
I think this may have been coverd in the past so I appologize but I cant find it. That said. I have a Bosch 12 inch slider, I put it on the job right after I got it and when it got put away that day the unit was cranked over to a 45 45 with the fence all the in. So need less to say it loaded the blade. I hadnt notice that first day any wobble but It was there the next day and i realized it bent the blade. I replace the blade (several times since) and they all wobble. I would be shocked if that tention on the blade could bend the arbor. I have been living with it for along time but now I am doing more precise work with tight tolerences and it prevents perfect compunds. I built a custom table for reptitve cuts and it cuts a 64th without tention but if i push it it can be as much as 16th. For small intricate stuff this is making it tough. I know allready it is the wrong saw for the little stuff but i want it right never the less. Are there smaller blades for the larger arbor to help. In addition, any one come up with a good dust collector. I ended up cutting up a water bottle a long tim ago and mounting it to the lower part of the collector. It helped but with MDF it could be better.

Re: Bosch Slider
I think you may be up for replacing a few parts with the blade wobble. If you have bent the shaft or damaged a bearing then each time you use the saw you will be wearing out other parts due to the unbalanced action. This problem is more noticable on a 12" blade due to the larger diameter. If you were going to mount a smaller blade just check that the max rpm of the smaller blade exceeds the max rpm of your saw. Also, be aware that a smaller blade will also not cut all the way past the fence nor will it cut all the way through (depending on size of course). This will force you to chock up the work from the table and away from the fence which would be a safety issue IMO.
My advice is to spend some money a smaller cheaper saw that also has a decent dust collection system. Without a shop vac you will be choking on dust each time as I have 10" Bosch slider and it has the same problem. The money spent will make your life a hell of a lot easier. I ended up buying the 7 1/2 inch makita slider for fiddly stuff and after I bought it I kicked myself for not buying it sooner. It now does 75-90% of my work. |

Re: Bosch Slider
I know this is a REALLY old post, but I wanted to just bring up the fact that on my 5412L the laser caused my blade to have some run out...i removed the arbor laser and replaced it with the standard arbor washer bosch supplied with the saw and BINGO...she ran true...you guys with the 5412L, you may want to look into that.

Re: Bosch Slider
Yeah, just throw that laser thingy right into the garbage. Add-on lasers like that, I know it came with the saw but still an add-on, throw things out of wack. That saw can take a beating I know that. If it has the laser take it off and store it in the garbage!!
