my sign printer guys use the breakaway blades, i hate those.

But don't you hate it when you can't seem to find ANY of your knives when you really need it.

Re: Best Utility Knife

The best heavy duty utility knife imo, is the Stanley 10-122A Super Heavy Duty hands down. I'd post a picture but I don't have enough posts yet.

Our CBU of choice is Durock and this knife is the only one that's tuff enough for it. I'll put it to you like this, one of my partners is so infactuated with them that he ordered 20 of them just in case they ever stop making them. He figured that was enough for the 3 of us until we put the tools down for good. My first one lasted 5 years!!

Re: Best Utility Knife

That's It. the Stanley 10-499. that's been my blade of choice for just about anything. even fine cuts on vinyl graphics. I have one in every tool belt, tool chest, tool box, tool bag, trailer, garage, desk. always pick one up when i see them. If I have a pen and one of these in my pocket, i'm complete.

Re: Best Utility Knife

As a Roofer, knives are our daily 3rd hand.

For general roofing...the roofer's standard:

For hooked blade roofing uses:

I prefer this one, but can't find one to replace mine that was stolen (that I had for 7 years ) This is absolutely the best knife for roofing hook blades:

So I'm using this fixed blade knife for my hooked blade use:

For carpentry work:

Generally, I always keep a roofer's knife (which the carpenters I worked with laughed at until I started to cut Durock with it with ease while they scraped their knuckles with their utility knives) and a hooked blade knife (which I suspect were orginally created for carpet layers who's work needs are very similar to ours as we both lay out materials in rolls, need to have a hook blade to cut on the reverse side of the material from the top and with a design that keeps our knuckles above the work).

Re: Best Utility Knife

I went through the entire topic and no one seems to sharpen their blades. I use a diamond hone on all new blades and they seem to get better as they get older. A radiused profile doesn't pick up as much 'junk' as the straight angle profile as provided by the manufacturers when dealing with drywall.

These are with me always. http://www.dmtsharp.com/products/diafold.htm
Warning! They can get your weapon of choice TOO sharp for skinning fish or animals.
