Best Rotary Self-leveling Laser Level

I am planning to purchase a laser level, rotary, self leveling. I will be using it for trimming (chair rails etc.) drop ceilings, leveling footers and such. I want to spend $500 to 600. Accuracy is obviously of greatest importance as is reliability. I would also prefer a thin line to be projected rather than a wide line if possible. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Best Rotary Self-leveling Laser Level

I had a few lasers over the years , But just bought a PLS 360 on amazon for around 700 bucks.
Its pretty accurate and shoots square lines around the room and on the floor .
I have a PLS 5 for lay out . John

Re: Best Rotary Self-leveling Laser Level

I have one like this, but it's orange and several years old. I have used it interior and exterior. I'm sure there are many features I haven't used it for, but I like that I can just turn it on, it levels itself and works great.

http://www.engineersupply.com/cst-be...mh600-pkg.aspx

i didn't buy it from there, i was looking for my actual model but that one is the more recent model i think. i don't have a remote control with mine, nor does it work with one.

Doc, I don't know if its like this everywhere else, but around here on Friday I noticed that Lowes had 50% off on their lasers. I saw one that was regularly $500 for 250.

PLS 360 is not a rotary laser, but is throws a beam 360 degrees, it has a finer beam than my $2500 Spectra GL422.

For what you mentioned the PLS 360 would be a good choice.

Here is a used one with detector, they both come with the bracket for doing suspended ceilings.

and a new one with detector

After looking on their web site I noticed that was the case, but as you say it still throws a beam 360 deg. I didn't know the beam was finer, but that is exactly what I am looking for. I will certainly check that one out as it seems to fit the bill.

For what you are looking for that is what I recommend, I have about a dozen lasers, most of them are PLS and for what you are doing I would huse the PLS 360 for probably eveything, except maybe leveling footers depending on how far they are, the PLS 360 can be used for that as well if you get the kit with the detector.

plus the PLS 360 can be had new for less than the bottom end of your budget.

I kind of like the fact that he PLS 360 is not rotary, it throws a cleaner and finer line because of it.

Re: Best Rotary Self-leveling Laser Level

Hey bwalley, I really appreciate the input. I certainly would get the kit with the detector. Given what I'm willing to spend and what I will be using it for, I will likely be purchasing the pls 360. Thanks for the comparison to your other laser too. It seems the pls is a real bargain.

Re: Best Rotary Self-leveling Laser Level

Hey wellbuilthome, do you have the pls 360 or something else? I am just about sold on the pls 360, I just need to go look at one first. And yes, I will be doing some outdoor work.

They done the same thing here. The whole lazer section was empty and the day before it was full. Guess most of the employees had the bulk of them away to sell on ebay. perhaps they are going to stock some new brands.

Re: Best Rotary Self-leveling Laser Level

i'll have to check out lowes next time for that bosch tile laser. that makes the 90 degree lines out. looks like it would be great for larger tile floors. i have always snapped lines and gone off them but for that you can check your work as you are going and lines you cover up with thinset as you move across.

PLS makes one, it is a PLS 90, not cheap but it is a great laser.

the lasers you see at the home centers are not the same quality as the PLS lasers.
