Re: Battery Powered Nailers

Thanks for the advice. I'm a bit bummed that Makita doesn't offer a finish nailer - I've been looking at the Makita BST221 crown stapler -which looks pretty good (but is kinda pricey...).

If they had a finish nailer I'd buy it right away - mainly so I don't have to drag yet another battery charger around. I really like Makita's tools.

However, DeWalt's DC628K looks pretty good - except it appears you only get one battery (the Makita CS comes with two).

I know the Makita gives approx 3 different battery sizes for their 18 v lithium-ion batteries (& you need the big one to do any serious work...)

Is the same true for DeWalt? I've googled but can't figure out DeWalt's battery scheme.

Re: Battery Powered Nailers

There is no scheme. It's dewalts 18vt battery, you can run the old XR in it, the newer XRPs or the very newest NANOs. The tool doesn't care, it's just a matter of how many shots you want to get out of the thing before switching batteries.

Since I'm up to about 20 dewalt 18 vt batteries now, I tend to buy my cordless tools "bare" meaning no batteries no chargers. You can get screaming deals when you buy them bare.

Re: Battery Powered Nailers

I saw that (re: "bare") while scoping Amazon. However, b/c I don't already have any DeWalt batteries (or chargers) I went with the kit.

I'd probably go that route with Makita for future tools, seeing as I have several of their batteries... (couple of 1.5 and a couple of 3.0 amp hours) the CS I was looking at came with two 3.0 batteries - which made it pretty appealing... Heck, if I like the DeWalt cordless tools as much as I like their other tools - I may do the same thing there!

I didn't know if DeWalt had a 1.5 they shipped with the tool & a separate 3.0 like what happened when I bought my new Makitas. Guess I'll get back on Amazon & check out spare DeWalt battery prices.

I like the look of the Rigid nailer, but I especially like the fact that you can stand the DeWalt up on it's battery (even the lithium).
I have never paid more than $62 for an 18V Nano battery. If you are not in a hurry, you will find a great deal on Ebay.

I acumulated most of my batteries by buying kits that made economic sense, everywhere from Home Depot, Lowes, Craigslist... etc...

What I mean is when I needed some more batteries I had no desire to go out and by a two pack somewhere for $129.00, not when if I bided my time I could find a deal such as an Impact wrench a charger and 2 batteries for $110.00. Craigslist is a good one two cause if you take your time you'll find some deals. Last night I saw a guy selling 18vt for $29 each.

Keep your eye out and you can build up a lot of stuff cheap.

Don't forget all Dewalt 18vt have a date sticker on them that tells you how old they are.

Apparently, she bit onto his tongue and wouldn't release, so he punched her in the face several times to make her let go.Google it.

I have seen smaller dewalt batteries that were sold with some of the smaller non-xrp drills. A guy that I worked with had one of these drills, the battery was marked XRP, but it was a little over half the height of a regular xrp battery. It worked fine in the larger XRP drills.

Re: Battery Powered Nailers

I think you are talking about their compact battery. I've never seen one for sale with a tool, only available as a stand alone battery. But who knows what a company that big is doing from one part of the country to another.

I use the Dewalt's. They work well. The batteries do make them a little heavy to use over an extended time.

Re: Battery Powered Nailers

DeWalt cordless 15g angled and 18g straight nailers are great. Already have a bunch of DeWalt 18v batteries so it made sense. Just remember they are 18v and are heavier than a Paslode cordless.

Biggest plus for battery only nailers is no gas smell like Paslode. Putting up crown on 10' ceilings all day and not having that stink = no pounding headache. Priceless.

Re: Battery Powered Nailers

I have the DeWalt DC618 18V finish nailer. It's a reliable gun, after several thousand nails I think it has misfired once or twice maybe. But it's not exactly lightweight: 8,6 lbs incl the battery. That's why I got the Hitachi NT65GS gas powered finish nailer: 4 lbs incl battery and gas cartridge. The Hitachi took some getting used to, but once I got into the "rythm" it worked great and has done so ever since. Two of my fellow workers tested a gas powered Paslode finish nailer, and they say that the Hitachi doesn't smell much compared to the Paslode. I have also tested a Senco 14,4V finish nailer, but that gun didn't feel good in my hand. Compared to the DeWalt it had kind of a different firing mechanism that I didn't like, but it's not as heavy as the DeWalt. It also seemed to shoot the nails just as consistently as the DeWalt. But out of these three my favourite cordless nailer is the Hitachi.

Re: Battery Powered Nailers

Paslode angled trim nailer, like loneframer said, can't go wrong,
factory sells refurbs direct on their ebay store for half of retail...

much better than the 18v dewalt and you can get two paslodes for the same price...

never had a problem and you can nail as fast as you want... who needs a bump trigger for trim...

once you're dialed in the depth setting is way more consistent than air...

do it

one warning, they are LOUD! in a kinda high end percussive way... I wear earmuff protection or I get a headache in like 5 shots...

the paslode framers are awesome too...
