cold weather is upon us- and we get cracked thumbs & fingers & they are sore !! Sometime you can't even pick something up-that how much they can hurt
I don't like gobbing the stuff on before bed but have to and wear latex gloves. I have a pair of dedicated soft leather gloves in the truck that are saturated with the stuff and wear when I'm driving.
As mentioned, sometimes the fingers and thumbs are so bad, I can't pick up a drill bit.

I remember when Shania Twain announced that it was her secrete to perfect skin, every co-op store and farm supplier around sold out of it.

Looks like its mostly petrolium jelly:

Re: Bag Balm - Skin Softener

I've been using it for about 20 years now. Discovered it when working at a slaughter house. It cures beef rash.

I also now use it to help my skin when it breaks out from chemicals (floor glue meta caulk etc.) Wise A$$es can make fun all they want if it wasn't for this stuff I would be in the emergency room more than not or give up construction.

I've got cotton glove liners by the dozens. Use them with the balm as a barrier or night treatment.

As far as with latex as it's petroleum based it eats through the gloves sometimes so I can't always use them.

I also use Badger salve when it's less severe.

http://www.badgerbalm.com/pc-14-2-healing-balm.aspx

Cracker Barrel and some auto parts stores carry it.

If I ever get to meet Shania I guess I have a conversation starter!

(It won't help but what the Hey!)

Bag balm is grea for wounds too. Scratches, abrasions, cuts. Heals them faster and takes the soreness out. It's as good as any triple antibiotic out there and costs the same for a tub as it does for a little tube.

Good enough for a cows tits it's good enough for my cut finger

Re: Bag Balm - Skin Softener

Probably very similar, when I was a kid back on the farm, we used "teat dilators" when a cow had a problem in that department. Looked pretty much like a golf tee, and was inserted into the teat to help it heal properly. They came packed in a salve that was better than anything we could find over the counter for humans.

Funny coincidence, just yesterday I had the impulse to start a Show of Hands thread. I've been grinding out mortar joints for tuckpointing for about a month now. Between the dust, scraping the odd knuckle on the bricks and bouncing off the diamond blade now and then, my hands are looking almost as old as me.

I haven't tried the Bag balm yet but have used Cornhuskers lotion.
Started using it at ten years old because I use to deliver the morning paper in the winter on a bike without gloves.
Tough guy,right?
My knuckles cracked open to the point of bleeding, till I used this stuff.

Seriously though the talo in animal fat causes rash on forearms and stuff.

It used to be the main ingrediant in women's make up and what would cause so many of them to be allergic to certain brands.

I don't watch much TV but the OP reminds me of a "Home Improvements" show
Construction guys making lunch on site.
One guys torching a grilled cheese and looks a little sheepish about his secret ....
Tim"Hey I'm the Tool Guy..Tool Time audience..."
"I like to put a little basil on"......

Growing up smack dab in the middle of corn country I discovered that for the wounds you get from detassling corn and bailing hay.

It was a few more years before I found bag balm. They had it on a dairy farm I worked on I just didn't know all it's antiseptic/healing benefits.
