Wow a rafter hook and stronger cord... a little late to the game.

Re: Anyone Have This Yet?
Looks like they are after the boys that want the old school style.
I have a feeling people think that a worm gear has been in use for so long its a more proven design when in fact it is less efficient and old technology for this application. |

Re: Anyone Have This Yet?
I actually really like the old design. I have a couple of Skil wormdrives, but usually found myself reaching for the Dewalt, just me though.

The skill saws are 14lb, I like using a worm drive for a ripping a deep cut since it won't bog down and likes to stay on a straight path. I will have to check it out.

Re: Anyone Have This Yet?
i just plain avoid dewalt at any chance i can, the 3 dewalt tools i own/owned i hate and the ones we have on site is nothing more than a battle to use.
that wormdrive looks alot like the ridgid anyway

Re: Anyone Have This Yet?
DeWalt made a saw very similar looking to this before their current 7 1/4 framing saw. I had one and it lasted the least of all the other saws I've had in use over the years. I had it repaired once for half the price of the original tool.. It was something that wasn't easily fixable as I usually do my own repair work on the saws.
I prefer the Skil Mag77 for a worm drive. Skil has been making these saws for a long time and all I've ever done with them is replace trigger switches and cords from time to time.. and less frequently, the handle and or table after being dropped or whatever. I do use a couple of the current Dewalts and they're okay. Being lighter than even the Mag is maybe the main benefit to them in my opinion. The added bevel capacity is sometimes handy as well. They also don't have the life in them of the Skil as I've been through a couple of them too. I have not used the Bosch but I have a framing contractor friend who bought two and doesn't like them. I personally thought the cord system might be useful, but he didn't like that either on the Bosch. All in all, I'll probably give Dewalt's new worm-drive a try.. their third attempt should be a pretty good one. I like most of their other tools, but as we all know certain manufacturers rule certain classes of tools.. Milwaukee Hole Hawg, Bosch hammer drills, Makita (chopsaw maybe), I guess maybe Milwaukee, Porter Cable, and Bosch all make a pretty good Reciprocating saw now.. although most of us call them Sawzalls which is indicative of Milwaukee's early reputation as probably the best of the bunch. Hilti has some good stuff... Then there are some of us who only use one brand. I've always found that interesting. |
