Anybody Use The Concrete Chain Saws Yet

Gonna bite the bullet and pay the extra cost to rent the chain saw for an egress we're doing Monday morning. Just wondering if anybody else has used one how well they work since you can plunge cut the entire wall thickness from the outside saving the mess on the inside. Wall is cinder block.

any hints or advise for making it work easier and wear less on the blade?

I cant imagine this will be any worse than the dust/mess/fumes created by the quicky saws so am looking forward to using it.

LOL, while I totally agree with that train of thought 99% of the time we just dont do enough egress openings to warrant the expense of this saw/blades for it's specialized use....if it were multi-facited that would be one thing, but other than plunge cutting foundations I cant think of anyother use...but I'm not a concrete guy either so maybe there are other uses that escape me. Would rather buy a quickie saw since it's very versital as opposed to 1 specialized saw that gets fired 1 or 2 times a year if that.

Would think cutting poured walls with rebar would play heck on these pricey blades too

You wanna' look very closely at chain life expectancy and replacement cost. The last time I looked, buying didn't make sense for me.

Ditto, even if I used it often, for me at least it's cheaper just to rent for the day and not have it sitting on my shelf. It's an awesome tool though, cuts like butter! Comparered to the other options at least

LOL, I noticed in the few vids I watched the guys all wearing wadders to keep from being doused When I called for a price from a wall sawing company and talked with them the owner told me they turn the water waay down for doing finished basements and said typically there may be a 1/4 cup of slurry inside once they're done, so even if it costs me a few more dollars for blade wear I'm going to keep water in check to prevent making a pond inside and having to keep a sump outta my pit prior to setting the window well

Got another guy coming with me for this one so we'll be able to trade back and forth, actually the guy that is digging it owns a masonary company and once I said I was getting the chain saw he perked up and said he's gonns stick around to see if it might be a purchase he would be interested in, so I'm sure I could talk him into making a cut too LOL!! I'll stand up on grade and watch the other boys have their fun

Re: Anybody Use The Concrete Chain Saws Yet

Well..... told buddy that owns the rental shop they can stick this thing where the sun dont shine. I dont know what a new blade looks like, but I was only able to cut 8 linear foot before it completely stopped cutting, so on one hand I have to assume I got the typical rental store worn out blade. The saw itself worked fine, but I said the heck with it once I fired it up since I'd purchased full rina gear for this job and had my boots on, plus cordened off the area inside.

Inside water spray was unreal...even with water ball valve turned half way shut and minimal water output all the water shot into the indise living area---or off the tip of the blade I should say.

Slowest cutting SOB I've ever used, I literally could've cut 3 egress with the quickie for what it took to cut 8 linear feet in a cinder block wall ...that bad When it was all said and done I was standing in 15" of water in a 8'x54" hole we had dug that we had to pump out....on top of 3 gallons of water we shop vacced out of the inside area, so this extreme blade wear and poor cutting perfoormance was in nooo wayyy due to lack of water to cool the blade down

After talking with rental guy he said he had one last chain to install and he's selling it and NEVER getting another one, he siad this is the most expensive piece of eq to operate in the entire place with the high price of parts, and maintenance required...he told me this is not a use then set back on the shelf tool, it has to be torn down after every job to clean the slurry out of all the nooks/crannies even though the companies tought them as "sealed" areas, he said the ICS saw is not "sealed" as claimed.

I'm still fumin at this whole ordeal and waste of time...and I'll find out tomorrow how much money, so in a nutshell, I would'nt waste my time with another concrete chain saw if you literally gave it to me free. I'd tape a quarter to it and set it by the road so when some other sorry sap took it he'd have something.

Re: Anybody Use The Concrete Chain Saws Yet

LOL, I figured I'd try it since every once in awhile you stumble across things that make life easier, nobody I know personally has ever used one so I figured wtf, I'll give it a whirl.

I now see why nobody used it, they musta heard the rumors and were smart enough to believe them Still fuming over the friggin headache it gave me Stopped back tonight to go over a different well cover option since plan A did'nt pan out with this cheap crap they wanted, and the usual "it looks great" schpeel, and then the husband said "I could'nt believe there was no mess left over and no dust anywhere"....we take precautions the best we can in every egress, but this "water world" was beyond stupid. nothing like slopping around in the muck to make a guys day-boots were 20lbs each, pant legs and my azz were solid mud, slop all over everything naturally until we cleaned..and cleaned, and cleaned

NEVER AGAIN!!!!! EVER!!!!!! Even if i was in jail and they gave me a concrete chain saw and water hose and said as soon as I cut myself out I was free....I'd stay in jail I have that much distaste for that POS right now

I was pretty much barred from using the trucks once I was deemed the "mole" and did all the in ground work, looked like I sheeot myself on both sides of my pants Had to wait till the end of the day for it to crust up and crack it off.

I wore rain pants, rain coat, saftey glasses so none of the crap got on from cutting...other than pant legs and boots. But wearing all plastic in direct 90* heat...was'nt noo fun and I was soaked from sweat once I got out anyways so guess it would'nt have mattered one way or another if I wore anything at all since it still had the same end result-dirty/nasty like you said-wash off before you get in the truck.

Only part that makes me mad was the time wasted knowing from experience we could've had 3 total egresses cut in ready for bucking in the time it took to cut 3/4 of this single hole....I'm on your band wagon and will await the next poor soul looking for "experience" using this POS saw. I cant even fathium trying to cut a poured wall with this hunk of junk blade I had...

Re: Anybody Use The Concrete Chain Saws Yet

Well, to add insult to injury the end of the POS chain saw story has come to a close. I stopped down to settle up this afternoon (he was busy yesterday and did'nt have time to figure it all up)

dirty bastage hands me a bill for $383.06 to cut 7 linear feet and not enough to even finish the frick'n job I rented it for to begin with

I looked at the bill, asked if he was serious while nerviously laughing. Then we rehashed the conversation we had yesterday about what I cut, where it was at, substrate, water used, etc..., just happend to be another guy in there that kept boosting " I've cut 10 egresses with hardly any chain wear with that saw" Gave him the look and said then I guess you'll give me your name and number so you can cut all my future egresses then right?? Then looked back at the store owner and said if your serious about this, then I will pay it...but make no mistake I will take my business up the road from now on. I was'nt trying to be a dick, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna be the one buying a new blade since obviously this one was defective since joe blow in the corner can cut 10 egresses on the same blade

He ended up knocking it down to $278 so that was a plus, but was kinda bad since I think we both ended up feeling "screwed" after this whole ordeal since he did'nt get full retail and I spent $278 on a tool that could'nt even do the job I rented it for.

Give me a week and I'll be good as new, gonna rent his mini skid steer either Fri or Mon to cut back grade/level a small area (14'x14') we're building a deck and digging post holes with it, so hopefully this will go much much better.

Re: Anybody Use The Concrete Chain Saws Yet

I took a heavy rescue class where we used the partners and the ics saws. A Rep was there and these were his saws. We cut the crap out of a bunch of concrete. Cut up a few precast vaults, it was a bit messy but not some sort of major flood. The saws kicked ass. The rep said the chains were beaucoup $, and that was just the "cheap" ones, and like everything else the "cheap" ones were crap I think this saw must have had the cheap one on it then that guy cut his dozen doors, and you got somthing that cut as well as a piece of string.

I dont see why you should pay $2.75 much less $275 You paid to rent something to cut concrete, this saw did not. what are you paying for exactly?

That was exactly my point when he handed me the invoice. I've had trouble before with tools not performing, breaking, etc...and he's always made it right and we got the job done, this whole deal was just rotten all the way around.

Make sure he gives you a bit with good fresh new teeth on it, as one with dull worn out teeth will give you a repeate of your chainsaw ordeal
