kinda like doing an fine oil painting with a 4" house brush. Why bother....if you are after a sharp pencil, get a box of dixon ticonderogas and a regular sharpener. no more of your cut line being a 1/4" wide.

found one here Mike. I think they're referred to as mechanical pencil sharpener. I still have one in my home. My kids use it all the time.

I have the HD version of this on a mild chain hanging from my Tool Belt. Does the job quite well!

Care to explain the need for a Mechanical Sharpener? It may help perpetuate the conclusion.

I also use a cartridge tip. NEVER needs sharpening.

Me too...my "electric sharpener" is my 1/4 sheet sander with 100G on it.

It takes only a second or two to rehone the point to "half millimeter" accuracy, it's usually on the bench plugged in anyways, and it's impossible to lose!

That one looks like a regular pencil sharpener. Are you saying you can use it on carpenter pencils?

What a great idea but Duluth trading no longer carries this carpenter pencil sharpener in stock. Hmmm, pondering idea to duplicate and make millions.

That is the "Boston KS" rebranded. It is the ONLY manual sharpner to have. It is the one we all used in School.

The only bad part that I recall is that some of the "Husky" Brand Pencils would NOT fit!

That is just silly.

This one actually makes sense
if you don't want to use a knife.

A bit off topic in regard to carpenters pencils specifically but i just have to ask

Why are these typically mounted on basement stair walls? Every time I encounter one i ask myself. Why there? Is a sharp pencil a pre-requisite for descending down into a basement?

It's handy, but out of sight.

I always thought that the real carpenters pencils that were used by real craftsmen were flat. You could sharpen them with a posket knife ot Stanley knife to a chisel point that was strong and accurate.

If you are into cabinet making that is a different situation.

Correct on all points.
Any rotary sharpener will by definition
create a conical point and you lose
all of the benefits of the flat lead/chisel point.

I still won't roll off your ladder though!
