American Made

Please tell me that Klein Tools are still

Made In America

I have always happily paid more for them (back in my low voltage days) ...because they are well made.

Can we start a list of US made tools and equipment, so I can cross check it with my xmas list. (Like a new nail bag - Occidental or Diamond back, and some boots, Red Wing or I think Danner has a US pair)

Thanks

Mike

Not all Red Wings are Made in USA....some are from China ~ checking the stamp on the tongue is a good way to see where they are made. The Red Wings website does not make a distinction between "Made in USA" and "Imported".

What REALLY pisses me off is people buying "American" flags that are imported. How azz backwards are some people?

There are many websites dedicated to "Made in USA".
Here are a couple [tool section in brackets]:

http://www.stillmadeinusa.com/ [http://www.stillmadeinusa.com/tools.html ]

The higher end Ideal tools are made in USA.

I actually just replaced my Klein linemans and cutters with Ideal.

Most Craftsman hand tools are still made in the USA, & can be bought at Kmart as well. I try & buy as many Craftsman tools as I can for price, quality & a great return policy. My second pick is to buy German or British made tools. I honestly don't think I have any Chinese in my personal sets, I do however buy some disposable HD stuff for jobsite use. I do like the 30 pcs sets of screwdrivers & pliers, give them to a laborer to use in the dirt & it doesn't matter where it is made, it's never comming back. So there is a use for some chinese stuff, as long as it is as cheap as it is made. I will also buy some Japanese made tools as their quality & labor rates are compareable to ours.

I bought a package of 4 tie downs, proudly displaying the American flag and Made in the USA, I opened them and on the tie downs it said made in China. It wasn't one of those "packaged in the USA" it said "Made in the USA", I returned them.

Klein is still made in the USA, right here in Illinois (one of the few good things to come from this crap state), I used to work next door to the old manufacturing plant in Skokie, used to get their tools while they were still hot (and priced right).

This last summer, I went to buy a new pair of boots, and quickly found out that it was impossible to buy a pair of boots locally, with a steel toe and lugged soles, that wasn't made in China. Since then, I've been a lot more careful about buying American made. I'm also ok with buying products that were made where the company that made them is based- I have no problems with Fein, for example, because they are made in Germany. I only buy Chinese made when I can't find that particular type of product that is made anywhere else. What I've found intresting is that there doesn't seem to be that much of a price gap between compairable US made and Chinese made products. Often the US made products are both better and cheaper.

Most of the tool companies are a mix these days. A lot of Irwin's stuff is US made, but then again, a lot of it is "US made from global components". I've seen some stuff of stanely's that is chinese, but then again, a lot is US made. Most of the Husky (home depot) products are chinese, but there are a few that are US made, and I have a pair of supprisingly well made husky levels that were made in Isreal. Maglight makes their stuff in America.

For clothing, Carhartt is good as long as they aren't contracting from Red Wing, and Red Wing seems good as they aren't contracting for someone else.

Unfortunately most Carhartt products are no longer made here, however they still charge the same. I pretty much still buy all Carhartt & at least the quality still seems to be pretty good.

For me it's USA, Germany, England and Japan. I have no problem with tools from these countries. I have started to notice that many companies that used to produce their tools exclusively in the afore mentioned countries have started to make them in Malaysia, china and Hong Kong. It's funny how the prices don't decrease though....

all my work pants, shirts, and coat say made in America. The boots are made by Red Wing in China, and the small stuff like gloves and hats are a mix.

Hehe, they get away with that by making the packaging USA made. So if you ever question it they can claim the box or plastic sheath it comes in is USA made.

There is a racket that has been going on with all types of blades as of a couple years ago. It started with diamond blades and has migrated all the way down to regular 7-1/4's. The blade is imported and stamped as such. They then put a USA made sticker, that says USA made, over the middle 50% of the blade.
