I started a thread on this a while back http://www.contractortalk.com/f40/point-lasers-63094/ I ended up getting the PLS 5 beam laser. It doesn't shoot the lines, just dots, but for my purposes it's been a big time saver. I've used it on practically every job since I got it.

I picked up one of these DeWalt DW087K line lasers last week on Amazon for well under a couple of hundred bucks.
I already have a couple of 5-dot lasers and a torpedo line laser, but needed a better dual line type. So far I like it a lot.

Here is a link to it:

As was mentioned earlier in the thread, a lot of companies make premium and "value" lines.

For my laser I went with a company that only makes one level of quality:

Here are a couple of the new Bosch lasers

Bosch GPL5C - 3 dot 2 beam with cross up and down

Bosch GLL2 80 - works just like a rotary. Solid beam horizontal and vertical

Bosch GTL3 - floor/tile laser. Shoots at two 90's and a 45

If you are looking for a bargin, the GPL5E is getting discontinued. Bosch just started clearance pricing on them

Bosch GPL5E

Bosch GPL5E & DLR165K - Combo that is super cheap right now

We just started this FAQ section that can also help a little if you guys are not familiar with all the systems. This is not complete, as we just put it up last week. Pretty basic.

Construction Laser - scroll down a little for the mini FAQ and down further for a link to a more comprehensive one.

no problem, I am not sure about the China comment above on the Bosch line. It is possible, but ever since they bought CST Berger last year all our orders for lasers (CST, David White, Bosch) are coming in CST boxes from Illinois. Tomorrow (out of town today) I will check the ones that just came in last week and see what they say on them.

From the Bosch website.

At the end of 2007, the company acquired RoboToolz Ltd (Hong Kong, China), a competitive manufacturer of laser measuring tools, and in 2008, the U.S. measuring technology manufacturer CST/Berger.

Bosch closes the acquisition of measuring tool business
from Stanley
Extends global position in measuring technology

• CST/berger is largest supplier of leveling and surveying equipment in the U.S.
• Company employs approximately 350 associates in the U.S., Germany and Italy
• Expands Bosch’s world-wide product portfolio of Power Tools division

So the current Bosch lasers which are the old RoboToolz lasers are made in China. The CST Bergers and David Whites are US made, and I am not sure what they did in Germany and Italy since those employees were there before Bosch bought them.

Aiken, you have some very good prices on the CST's even better than Engineer Supply. Do you plan on carrying the other CST models like the ALGR. I have the LM800PKG which you carry, and the ALGR. Both great lasers with the same specs and similar features, but the digital readout for slope, etc. on the ALGR is very handy if you don't want to calculate the slope.

My Bosch GLL2-50 is made in China, but I still love it.

Yeah I checked the boxes after I got back in town. They are made in China.

We actually have the complete CST line, not all of it is up on our site at the moment. Even then not everything is going to be super cheap like those. We make special purchases from time to time across all manufactures. It would be nearly impossible to make those types of purchases on everything, so we mainly list the items that we buy like that.

We just recently hired a new web developer, and she will be updating the Bosch (and other manufactures) clearance page more often than we can. I actually have even better buys on other items at the moment, but just couldn't find the time to update the pages as much as I should be. An example of one of those was (maybe still is) 36V litheon ion Bosch rotary hammers. I think we were (might be sold out) selling those in the $349 ballpark.

Within the next couple of weeks, those pages will be done and I will update you guys when they are. Then you can just check them from time to time.
