Agree. I never rent or lease anything. House, car, tools, storage shed whatever. Only machinery that i will only use once or twice a year and can not afford anyway. Its just throwing money away. Even buying the cheap tools is a better investment if ,like me, cant afford the high dollar stuff.

[quote=MALCO.New.York;525743]RIDGID and Craftsman are BOTH manufactured by Emerson Tool.

So it is safe to assume that they are NOT tooooo far apart in Quality quote]

FYI: Todays Ridgid power tools are manufactured in China by TTI under a licensing agreement from Emerson and distributed exclusivley under contract through Home Depot. Craftsman products are a mixed variety of manufacturers but the drill lineup seems to be Ryobi clones which is not a bad thing for inexpensive power tools that provide value and decent performance. Emerson supplied Sears woodworking machines under the Craftman label for many years until Sears and Emerson ended the partnership in '98. For better or worse TTI owns Milwaukee today.

Ryobi tools serve as my "lenders" or back-up tools

Re: Affordable Cordless Tools

My Craftsman drills have a striking resemblance to my old porter cable cordless in every way. Handling, power, and balance. Don't know if theirs any reason for it but that is what I would compare it to.

Re: Affordable Cordless Tools

I wouldn't even recommend Ryobi to a DiY'er let alone a contractor.

If you're looking for value, want the most for your money, and are on a tight budget, I'd agree with the majority on here who said go for Ridgid tools.

Personally, I'm sticking with my DeWalts until they are dead and then put down some real money on something really nice.

Re: Affordable Cordless Tools

I agree with what many have written here. I am too poor to be able to afford cheap tools. When I buy somthing I only want to buy it once and have it last me. Mind you, I don't abuse my tools so they do last a long time. If I need cheaper tools (that I won't use often) I buy the green Bosch cordless as I have seen them take a massive amount of punishment and they just keep going.

Me too except I'll stick wih the Dewalts. My 1/4" impact is just about done after 2 1/2 years of constant pounding and the guard is sticking on the cordles 6 1/2 saw that came with the same kit. I have 10 batteries, so am kinda married to Dewalt....but happily married. The cordless recip saw, Jigsaw, rotozip, 1/2 drill, drywall gun, 1/2" impact, flashlight all still work fine with no issues.

My laser, and quickdrive take the same batteries.

Overall have been very happy with Dewalt.

Hey Woodbutcher,
I find that whenever my guard sticks, there is usually a wood chip wedged behind it somewhere.

RIDGIDS beat DeWalts (MNSHO) and the NEW Ryobi is not all that bad!

Steve

Thanks Steve. Changed the blade several times since it begin sticking.. No obstructions anywhere to be found. I use the chit out of it. With decking, once out of the framing I use it more than a corded saw. Many places where its beneficial blade left and I have more control over the saw than the larger one.
