Re: Affordable Cordless Tools

RIDGID and Craftsman are BOTH manufactured by Emerson Tool.

So it is safe to assume that they are NOT tooooo far apart in Quality.

Milwaukee and Ryobi are both TTI.

Sears does short term contracts with anyone that makes tools for them, usually one year deals, and they are constantly shopping for a better deal.

Re: Affordable Cordless Tools

Hmmm.... I stopped buying cheap/cost effective tools a few years ago. I have had Bosch cordless/drill burnt up (replaced with warranty) Makitas kept braking, Panasonics are nice, but I have a been in a committed relationship for a good part of this year with my little C12 drill from Festool. Not cheap, but I dont plan on having to buy anything for a while. I had a ridgid cordless drill once, I just didnt like it. I had a good run for awhile with the 19.2 Craftsmans untill someone went for a good run with the tool case. I think I still have a old stick battery Makita drywall gun that still works well.

Re: Affordable Cordless Tools

I will say that if you want to buy something only one time and know that when it breaks you can stop what you are doing and drive to the closest place that carries them, then craftsman or ridgid would be the two options, now I know for a fact that if my Festool drill needed fixed or something broke, I would just call my local Woodcraft and they would bring me one of their drills for me to use and then take care of having my fixed/replaced.

One thing that goes unmentioned allot when discussing cordless tools is that the carger is probably the most important part of the whole equation.

I have a few craftsman tapes that I turn in on a regular basis and get new ones. I bought them about 7 years ago and have traded them in for new ones 5 or 6 times. When they are in bad shape I break the end off and turn them in, no questions asked.

That DOES work!!!!!! It is all about the end!

I once purchased, from a Pawn Shop, 12 50' or 100' CMan tapes and got replacements. Then proceeded to go to 3 or 4 Sears and Return a few at each for the tools I REALLY NEEDED!

Like $300 worth!

" In 2003 Sears removed the lifetime warranty from Craftsman flashlights. Another limitation to the warranty introduced in 2003 Craftsman tape measures carry a lifetime warranty on all parts except the blade itself. Replacement blades, however, were made available for purchase from the stores to offset this policy. "

Re: Affordable Cordless Tools

And you guys wonder why all that stuff breaks all the time?

All that is doing is making companies like craftsman, rigid, ryobi and the like keep finding ways
to make their products cheaper because they know they will have to replace X amount due to
warranty claims, or the ends of the tapes magically meeting their doom with some tin snips.

I hear ya KillerToiletSpider,
I have a Hilti hammer drill, and it is as much of a blessing to own as my other green tools.

You get at least 90 days with ALL CMan equipment IF you use a Credit Card or keep the receipt.

Metal hand tools are forever!

It does when you buy the "no questions asked" 2 year return policy for $12.

I bought the tapes with a lifetime warranty, I expect them to last me a lifetime. When the tapes aren't working correctly due to everyday use and gummed up internals I expect to get a new one. I just break the end off to simplify the process, it's usually about to happen anyways. I have never had to take snips to them, just little twist.

I really never understood why they would warranty an item like a tape though, it's gonna break sooner or later.

Actually leasing is the worst money pit available. You pay for a tool and in the end you get nothing. Do the math and it is a terrible investment. Taking care of your tools is much easier than relying on a lease program.

I was just trying to figure out what a 'lese' was. Thought maybe it was french or something... Some new tool perhaps...? Is that the drywall or Oklahoma talking?
