Re: Windoe Caulk

make them come back and redo it, visible caulking means they were not good installers. Our installs have NO visible caulking anywhere, EVER

lol thats the one and only place that you DONT need to caulk. did they wrap the trim when the windows were installed, or did you have them wrap a while later?

Re: Windoe Caulk

I'd use siliconized acrylic caulk

all caulk shrinks, no matter what they say. I just had to go re-caulk some windows from an install job i did a month ago - my helper just did not put up a hearty enough bead the first time

or, you can use 100% silicone caulk, but the cleanup is tougher if you don't get that 'perfect bead' the first time

Because the aluminum on the sill should run up under the window. The bead of caulking should have been right against the interior window stool, and the window embedded in that bead which should not be visable. If the sill expander IS caulked it should be a very fine bead that wont seep out when the window is installed.

My guess is when they came back they had a tough time getting the sill aluminum under the window, and used the caulking to make up for it. When we wrap after the fact, we run a sawzall under the window to remove any caulking or debris to allow our metal to slip right under the window. We also cut under the casing so that we do not need caulking where the side casings meet the sills.

Re: Windoe Caulk

"quad" caulks works great and seems to be a lot more durable than siliconized latex

Re: Windoe Caulk

You could cut out the rotted area and install a dutchman. gorilla glue works fine and its waterproof.or you could use a product by min wax which is a two part component like auto bondo. would be my procedure, would like to here from others? good luck Bob
