What Windows And Doors Are You Guys Using?

I’ve got a project coming this summer where we’re:

• Replacing two 4-0 x 4-0 sliding windows.
• Replacing one 1-6 casement + 5-0 fixed + 1-6 casement x 3-0 (mulled together).
• Replacing two 8-0 x 6-8 sliding doors with 6-0 x 6-8 doors.

Need stain grade interiors and white cladding exteriors.

For the last 20 years I have always spec’d Pella or Kolbe & Kolbe windows and doors. I haven’t shopped anything else or been to a trade show in a while, so I was just wondering if I should give something else a look see.

I'm putting Marvin's in Kelly's house.

The 4/0x4/0 sliders I'm reconfiguring to 4/0x2/8 fixed with 4/0x1/0 upper awnings.

Yes.

Will be ordered here, Marvin will direct ship to her house.

They're going in the master bath next to the tub, tempered glass.

Adding the see thru fireplace also.

Marvin and Marvin Integrity. Milgard Tuscany for economy windows.

Used to use Pella a lot, service sucks here. I am about to install some on about big remodel though.

Kolby service isn't the truth here anymore either.

Marvin Doors have the best action of doors I have used. Integrity windows on double hung can be hard to close but great for the money . Great service

Re: What Windows And Doors Are You Guys Using?

I think the fall of Pella service here is one of the reasons I’m looking. When I was a big-time contractor, I spent a lot with them and could get great service + golf trips on the private jet. Now… I don’t even have a rep. and if I need a service call on a new install it could be 5 weeks.

I really like the Integrity line by Marvin.

Anymore, I am building windows for all my projects.

Marvin Integrity.

Harvey for Vinyl.

When I first started, Integrity was pretty limited for options. They have filled out quite nice in the last decade and are a very good value.

If I ever get to build my dream house or just end up remodeling my house down the line, I would love to have all mahogany windows with brass sash pulleys and chains.

Is Integrity a line of Marvin windows? Retrofit? New install?

Re: What Windows And Doors Are You Guys Using?

We use Andersen 400 series on pretty much all of our jobs, a few of the tighter budget homes got 200 series, doors are either Andersen or ThermTru usually.

That I can remember, we've only used Marvin windows once and that was speced by the designer.

They seemed like nice windows, but having not really used them I am not familiar with them. Are they comparable to the Andersen or better?

Re: What Windows And Doors Are You Guys Using?

Installing Anderson windows is my third favorite thing to do.

My first favorite thing to do is chew on a wad of tinfoil (and I have lots of metal fillings).

Second is to set my hair on fire and beat it out with a baseball bat.

Third is to install Anderson windows.

Forth is to pay a significant premium for an inferior window.

But if you think I should give them another look… Maybe I’ll let that dog lie

Re: What Windows And Doors Are You Guys Using?

The Integrity line by Marvin is divided into two styles. Wood-Ultrex and All-Ultrex. Ultrex is the frame material It is a fiberglass based product that has good performance in regards to energy efficiency and expansion and contraction.

The wood-ultrex has the fiberglass exterior frame, and a wood interior. This can be a great option and I have installed hundreds of them.

The All-Ultrex is similar to a vinyl window in appearances. It is the same color inside and outside. To me, they are kinda ugly from the inside. Also, the sliders are not on rollers, so they get a better DP rating (Wind Resistance) but they can be harder to open.

One of the best features of the fiberglass product is the color choices available. You can get darker colors than what you normally get with a vinyl window.

One of the key features of the integrity line is a quick turn-around time. They are supposed to have a two week max lead-time. That is why the options are limited compared to some of the higher end Marvin offerings.

No, I do not work for Marvin.

So, if I understand you correctly, you're going to rip out all the windows in your house to install new 400s?

I'll look into the Marvins when the time comes to replace my windows

My local yard just started carrying Sierra Pacific....really nice windows at a price point comparable to Integrity. Worth a look.

A long time ago we did several projects with Sierra Pacific windows. I may need to look them back up.

Most of my Tuscany come out of Denver. I think their fiberglass windows come from somewhere else, but not sure

I don't like Anderson much either, but a lot of archys and designers spec them. I had started noticing Sierra Pacific before we stopped estimating anyone elses plans but ours. I may give them a look see. Marvin has gone up by a out 40% for me in the last 18 or so months

I always talked the client into my choice of window anyway 90% of the time anyway
