We Started Early And It Was Still Hot!

http://www.contractortalk.com/attach...1&d=1153181023

I took the first picture at 6:05 am, 84 degrees already, and the last picture at 11:00 or so...98 degrees and climbing. My thermometer in the truck showed a BALMY 108....... I don't know how you guys did in the heat today, but we shut down at 1 pm....tomorrow we start at 5am again..and will til the heat breaks.

The pictures are a 50 x 100 floor for a steel building we will erect in a few weeks...poured 94 yards this morning...3500 psi with fibers, and the customers will keep the floor wet for the next week....

Re: We Started Early And It Was Still Hot!

At least you got to go home and get out of it. My AC unit at the house crapped out Sat. afternoon around 4pm. Wasn't able to find an available AC guy to get here until today at noon, they are all swamped with work.
The wife and kids stayed at a hotel w/pool, and I was the poor bastard stuck here waiting to see if one would show or not. I lost probably 10# in sweat, and have been comtemplating shaving my whole body.
BTW, it's hovering around 100* here in StL for the past week or so, with no signs of letting up.

Re: We Started Early And It Was Still Hot!

Got up this morning to start a miserable job and temp was already 77* at 7am and by 11am in the low 90's but it started RAINING AGAIN!!! I'm soooooo tired of rain this year screwing up my schedule and setting me back!!

Came home, showered since I looked like a chimney sweep from the few hours we got to work and was going to measure a bunch of jobs I have to bid....started raining SUPER hard and then the hail commensed...the smallest chunks were the size of large marbles and as I pulled under a tree to help deflect some of it I was watching 2-3" ice balls rain down. LOTS of hail damage around here-mostly cars obviously, roads like like they'r3e paved with leaves, seen 5 houses on the way home with holes in the vinyl siding and I never even bothered to check out the roofs but I'm sure there's damage there too.....nice cool front came behind the storm and we're back to 80 right now as I type.

Tomorrow upper 90's again and more RAIN!!!!! I've easily lost 1 month work to rain this year

Did I metion I hate rain???????

3500 mix with fiber @ $90 a cu/yd. That pour took 92 yards....kinda pricey.

Re: We Started Early And It Was Still Hot!

Actually...I had those guys just stand in so you would know what a crew looks like maj...I did that pour by myself..without the stand ins....

The crew in the picture is out of my town, and we call them on large pours..simply because we are stretched thin...these guys do great work..and work fast..and they nearly lostthe finish on that slab..they ended up with 4 power trowels working and flooding the floor since it was setting quick. It is so dry here, the watering we did for 2 days before the pour was barely noticed..and we wet it down for half an hour before the first truck showed up....

that price on concrete is low compared to here 3k psi is over $100/yd and could be as much as one week out on getting it. construction here is insane.

Any pours over 60 yards or so, we give the ready mix a heads up and make sure they have the cement on hand...they are getting allocations here.
