Using Forks For Working Of

I'm putting up a pole barn currently and using a tractor with forks-its great because of the ease of moving materials and throwing a pallet on to work off of.

Has anyone rigged up a nice platform to work from using their forks?

oops-title should have read "using forks for working off of"

Platforms? Pallets? whats wrong with the built in ones? Never had a problem with them when I worked in a warehouse.

We use one occasionally, I am not sure of the manufactuer. If you want to stay within OSHA regs the cage has to be fastened to the forks(chain, etc.), the guys in the basket must be tied off, and the operator must remain on the equipment when guys are in the cage.

We have used pallets before with no handrails. Make sure you hire an extra hand and post him at the end of the road to watch for osha. And never forget to make your guys sign the "Working off high/questionable platforms" release. It states, in the event that any employee that falls on the jobsite is immediately fired and is not considered an employee before they hit the ground.

By the built in ones I meant the forks... If they are too far apart move them a little closer. And I have climed the mast to get on the forks when no one else (or no one I would trust) was around to raise me.
