Unrigging A Rig Job With A Rig Job

I live in a small house (1000 ft.) with itty bitty closets, four of them 38 X 24 inches. The folks who installed my HVAC put the return duct through the wall of the hall and into flexi-duct (14" inside) in the front bedroom closet floor. This wouldn't be a problem except that the duct is filling up the first two feet of the closet. You can't hang pants or dresses! And it just happens to block access to the fittings for the bathtub. Tards! What I want to do is put the vent on the floor of the dining room closet and put a piece of plywood over it about 6" up. It would then draw through the wall of the hall through 2- 4" X 14" vents plus the 24" X 4" gap under the closet door. I may replace that door with one that has a proper vent down the road. The filter would lay on the floor over 6- 6" holes. Then I fasten four pieces of wood between the joists and put the sheet metal piece from the old closet wall on the bottom of the joists and reconnect the flexi. And caulk all the air leaks. My arithmetic says I have slightly more cross section with this arrangement compared to the old.
Does anyone see a problem with this? Any detail I need to be careful about? This will make the flexi about 20" shorter and remove one bend.
Why am I being so cheap? Because I used to be a contractor fifteen years ago and then got too sick to do this full time. I HAVE to be cheap!
This belongs in HVAC, can someone move it?

With a name like rinoguy I would not worry about the dressess. Get rid of them and you will have plenty of hanging space.
