Tileboard Adhesive
This ought to be a no-brainer but it appears that everybody has gone waterbased.
I'm trying to hang 4X8 sheets of melamine tileboard on 2X4 framing, no fasteners as it is to be used as a dry- erase board for conferences. First try was Liquid Nails Panel Adhesive - No Good. Took it back and bought LocTite brand construction adhesive, it worked better and then failed. It then dawned on me that the panel was absorbing the moisture in the sealant, causing the panel to expand and forcing the bond to fail. I was working the door panels first, so clamping was an option that worked. All of the remainder is in the field. I need something that is going to stick the first time and stay put.

Re: Tileboard Adhesive
No backer??
No hold. If I'm understanding you right, - - you need a backer (preferably wallboard), - - and then a 'trowel-on' adheseve would work best.

Re: Tileboard Adhesive
Tom, I used some stuff a few years ago for a similar quickie project but the grey matter is not recalling it. It DID have some odor, probably emitted some VOC's and most certainly caused cancer in some rats in CA if they were fed a steady diet of the stuff for 10 yrs. I'm just thinking of a thick contact cement in a tube, I'll make the stuff if I have to.

Re: Tileboard Adhesive
Mike, NEVER doubt that I WILL make it stick. I have a variety of epoxies that will work, they just cost about 3 times as much and you just can't stick them and walk away. To do a 4X8 panel would take about 10-15 mins. I'm looking for the cheaper and easier way out.

Re: Tileboard Adhesive
I see. I saw something about an adhesive that was advertising directly up against liquid nails, touted as much, much better. I wish I could remember what the product name was. Aren't polyurethane based adhesives considered the best?

Re: Tileboard Adhesive
Mike, I have used polyurethanes as tubing, paint, in castings and as foams. I built my last classic hydroplane using Gorilla Glue but it has yet to hit the water. I do know that the wood will fail first due to testing. This makes it as good as most epoxies with the exception of the long setting ones which can penetrate up to 1/8" depending on the wood used.

Re: Tileboard Adhesive
I found the stuff, Nail Power molding & paneling adhesive. Got it at Lowe's, closest place to the site. This stuff worked great! By the time that I had the exterior tileboard up, I went back to my start point and was able to set my accoustical insulation, pushing against the bond. Followed up with the inside panels. Completed the whole job in 4 hrs., including extraction and cleanup, solo.
Tom R No backer?? No hold. No way! There is a solution to every problem.

Re: Tileboard Adhesive
Glad it worked for ya', - - definitely wouldn't have been my 'solution', - - doesn't seem to me the bond is all that's required for a future in this application, - - different strokes . . .

Re: Tileboard Adhesive
Tom, this is a quicky solution to a company in a rented space. The specs. were easily removable without damage, soundproof and dry erase boards on both sides. They will probably hire me to demo the place within 2 yrs. and I dread taking it down. Even temp. is Teetorbilt.
