Stud Finder Through EFIS

I need a good stud finder to pick up metal studs behind the 1" foam and the rock. The ones i used to use were not very reliable. Thanks for any help. I think EFIS and Drivit/Drivet are about the same.

Re: Stud Finder Through EFIS

For really thick EFIS and Drivit (more than 1" foam) I use a piece of ceiling wire or insulation support wire, cut off at a 45* angle and poke. For ordinary EFIS on metal studs, I use a high quality cow magnet. It works like a charm. Sticks right to the stud, and the fully rounded off torpedo profile of the cow magnet keeps the EFIS from getting scuffed up.

I just started using a magnet also as I wasn't having much luck with stud-finders.
I just purchased this from McFeeley's...works like a charm.

I just got back from the farm down the road. Checked every cow there and never found it's magnet.

It's the very powerful magnet, shaped like a tube of Chap-Stick that they have a cow swallow to prevent hardware disease. You get them at a feed store or Tractor Supply or a place like that.

Wise guy...

Search all of the cow patty's .... you just may find one after all.

They are now being sold in tool supply stores .... finally.

I used to have to drive to a "farm and Fleet" to get them...

But then again, I have been using them for over 10 years, and have about a dozen of them ...

got sick of driving so far for cow magnets...

They are normally and approximately, 3/8" Dia. and 3" long and silver and look like something your girlfriend might keep in her nightstand.
