STARTING BUSINESS (Res. General Contracting)

STARTING BUSINESS (Res. General Contracting)
I live in Southern Indiana and I am wanting to start a gereral contracting business for new home construction. $150k and up. I know I can manage subs/employees however/business, however I need to supplement the income I make know. My biggest fear is the transition from my current job to a new business building homes. I love residential construction, however all my experience is on the Commercial side. What would you suggest I do to assure myself that there is going to be enough work to suppliment my income. Also how would you advertise? Yellow pages, flyers, parade of homes etc. etc..... Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks,
BC

Hello brother, I am a sub prim. in the framing and drywall part of residential homes. I would suggest getting with a builder. Then venturing after awhile to single lots in the same new subdivisions. Your biggest cost is going to be the lot $$$ Summitt Springs(Corydon) and Yorktown Place in Sellersburg still has a lots available. give me a call sometime after you get into it and we can discuss bids for drywall or framing. Good Luck.. john contact me at jcandsonsconstruction@yahoo.com

In terms of advertising I think job site signs work well in our area. Also, local paper ads are good. But you should have a good flyer/brochure and business card. Many online companies are good. I use affordablepromoting.com .

Good luck.

OK....first off Bill.....trying to size up the do's and dont's, then package them up in a pretty little picture to shine out like a bow on this thread, is like asking a water buffalo for directions to the river......where do I come up with this *****?

I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't ask me if the waters cold, ether jump in or go home......but always remember......the women wear less at the beach.
