Siding Brand Question
I've been posting in the siding forum, but there is not much traffic there
I'm putting together a quote for installation of siding and providing a price for Alcoa Quest3 and GP (BlueLinx) Heritage Hill. Does anyone have any thing bad or good to say about either? Had to choose these two lines to achieve the red color the HO was after-lesser lines don't carry the color. I had posed the question regarding installation time for Cedar Discovery, a molded shake. Does it take 2-3 times longer to install a molded style siding versus the typical 12'6" siding? Would anyone be willing to talk w/ off the board (private message) so I could bounce my proposal off of to see if they are reasonable of if I'm missing something? This is the first time I've done a large job (26 sq) and don't want to miss anything. Last edited by 72chevy4x4; 05-10-2007 at 09:02 AM. Reason: added line |

Re: Siding Brand Question
Chevy, Use the quest its a much better product. GP is a home depot lumberyard brand. FYI Certainteed also has the same dark reds actually in my opinion a truer dark barn red. (I know this because i just sold a job with it yesterday) Keep in mind that Alcoa and Certainteed are going to stand behind the product in the future if there are fade issues Im not too sure about GP

Re: Siding Brand Question
I am in New Jersey
First of all I apologize. My line of LP is now KP and owned by Kaycan I believe. We distribute there siding products. The Rockwell is a nice panel, obviously I always have reservations about dark colored vinyl siding. But it has been a non-issue for me, and there rep gives me no nonsense on any warranty issues anyway. Tell me where you are, and if you want, I will send you the rep if available. |

Re: Siding Brand Question
Kyle Im from MA Kaycan has a bad reputation up here as a builders grade to the extent that its a running joke to point out ugly wavy jobs as Kaycan jobs. I like to stick the the alocas and the certainteed although I really like the crane board product I haven't used it yet though not many people wanna spend the extra buck for a foam filled

Re: Siding Brand Question
OK, but I dont think this is Kaycan manufactured product. The siding panel around here that is made by Kaycan for sure, is the most premium vinyl panel in our market I believe. Funny how regions have such different tastes and thoughts.

Re: Siding Brand Question
Im sure they do produce a line thats better than what we see up here. Id imagine that the market up here was so saturated that their low end product was the easiest to push. I see it on tons of new housing developments. I swear you can see right through the stuff and the boxes almost fall apart when you pick them up.

Re: Siding Brand Question
I ran across the Norman Rockwell stuff at BradCo in Dover (and Wilmington I think...). The cost of the of the molded shake style and the regular 4" (or 4.5") lap was more expensive then the Alcoa I had priced-somewhere in the neighborhood of $220 and $110/sq. The NR stuff has been the only line I found which had a molded shake and a traditional lap in a dark red.
