Sheathing Question

In the study guide for my resedential builders license there is a question that has me.

How many 4'x8' sheets of OSB will it take to sheath the 10 foot walls on a 32ft x 48ft building, assuming no waste and no cut-outs for doors or windows?

a. 16
b. 32
c. 50
d. 100

I came up with b but they say the right answer is c. Im not sure how they figure that.

Re: Sheathing Question

32 foot walls require 10 sheets each (4 sheets wide times 2.5 sheets tall)
48 foot walls require 15 sheets each (6 sheets wide times 2.5 sheets tall)

10+10+15+15=50 sheets

Miichael,

Your first post you said that you came up with (B) 32 sheets.

Now you say you came up with 50 sheets.

How are you figuring this?

When in doubt, draw it out.

Re: Sheathing Question

Why make it harder than it is? the building is 32x48x10...so 32+48=80x2=160x10=1600/32=50 sheets.

Thats how I figured it, and I thought thats how I did it on the practice exam but for some reason I got 32. I do know I was tired and it was around 1:30am. I do remember going by the square foot of the wall and 32 for a sheet of osb, maybe my calculator screwed up.
