Removing Old T-111

I have been searching a while trying to see what you guys think is the best way to remove old, warped, rotten T-111 that has gone to mush. We are residing a couple of building and this has to come down before the new stuff goes up. What is the best method for removing the water soaked sheets from the framing? Thx.

Hammers and wrecking bars have always worked for me. Pull or hammer in the old fasteners.

Dig the nails out with a monkey bar or cats paw and it falls off the wall, how else? If its really mush, grab it and pull.

And if you are an angry person it will be that much easier. Just take your frustrations out on the wall. Or maybe get mad at the tax man!

Re: Removing Old T-111

If the siding is mush, I wouldn't assume that there is any framing there either.

Is everyone cranky today? Why the attitudes? Or is it just me? I'm always cranky.

Re: Removing Old T-111

I have been pulling all the fasteners, prying the sheets, etc. pretty much everything else everyone has suggested. I have been doing the sory of thing for a few years now and just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. I don't get to meet alot of other contractors in the area, so just thought I would solicit your opinion. Thanks for the help.

ROUTE 514; i AGREE WITH bILL r IF THE SIDING IS THAT WET I would be very suspect about the framing. For shure you need to just tarp that sucker for a while till everything really really dries out, then check for rot, punky framing BEFORE you try to re-side that critter

What works really well for me is yelling "TEAR THAT SIDING OFF" really loud in spanish and the going to a long lunch at the casino.

Re: Removing Old T-111

You wouldn't make it here, pulling all of the fasteners. I'd have that sucker stripped by now and the demo trailer gone.

Re: Removing Old T-111

i really dislike it when the people think they are going to make garbage like t-111 a quality product by putting construction adhesive behind it before they nail it up. my suspicion is that the building had diddles for vapor barrier and insulation and the inside moisture condensed on the siding. you should know how the framing is in most places by noticing how the fasteners pull from it

Re: Removing Old T-111

There is a fair amount of moisture from inside. Alot of the drywall behind and under sinks, tubs, and poorly installed windows is rancid. Did I mention these were ill-kept apartments? Moisture has definetly ruined some of the sparatic batting that was there, I have only had to replace a handfull of framing members, but I am only 1/4 the way through the entire project. I just hate having to pull all the fasteners out. It might just be easier to burn the building down!!! Hahaha

Sometimes cutting the sheets in 1/2, across the middle makes them easier to pull off (4X4 instead of 4X8). Set saw to the sheet thickness and try a few?

Good luck
