Raising ceiling height in the LR and D- room.

Good morning.

New member here.Need some advice.I am raising the ceiling height from 8' to 9'6" in a living and dining room.Single story 50's ranch, completely gutted with new floor joists, subfloor, and a1500 sq. ft. addition.I have installed 2 9.1/4 X 14 x 18 foot lvl's spanning the home left to right resting on 6 x 6 posts as per required by engineer. Rafters are 16 oc 2x6 hard pine(real wood ). Roof pitch is 8/12.My question is, can I tie the new 2x8 ceiling joists (15 foot span from lvl to rafter) and 2x6 ceiling joists (12 foot span from lvl to rafter)
into the rafters by nailing or using strongties. In my mind (which is a lonely place) if I tie the new ceiling joists from the lvl into the rafters, the load originally placed on the top plate by the ceiling joists is now transferred to the rafters. My engineer can't help me (glad I already paid him) so I thought someone on this forum might have done this.
Any help would be appreciated. Jamie.

I think I'll need a drawing for this.

Why are your spans labled LVL to rafter?

Have you placed the LVL sub level with vertical support?

Are the cieling joist sistered up to the rafter tail just above the top plate?

Common rule of thumb: Nails or bolts work for sistered, metal for butt or edge to edge, however overkill never hurts.

The old ceiling joists rested on the top plate of the exterior wall sistered to the side of the 2x6 rafters (gable roof ) .Then where the 2 joists ends met in the center of the room (sistered and resting on the bearing wall) we removed the old joists and installed an lvl. I just want to figure out if I can use the existing rafters to sister the new ceiling joists to the lvl.I am worried that the new ceiling load will be resting on at the point where I tie them to the rafters. I can get photos if it it might be hard to invision. Thanks, Jamie.
