Radiant Floor Homes
Starting to get trendy around here. Now that the technology is getting better we're seeing a lot more of these homes. They just come in and pour the foundation, black plastic, pink foam insulation, set their tubing and all other plumbing rough ins, pour their concrete, stamp per their design, and then frame it up.
I'm eager to get to do some hardwood in them. Some have tile, some have a combination of tile, carpet, hardwood, and even stamped concrete in some areas. These are mostly custom homes but I can see the spec home builders doing a few for a change in scenery.

Re: Radiant Floor Homes
Where I come from,AK, this was the norm for new high end const. Great for warm floors. Most would also do their garage, some would do their sidewalks and drives.

Re: Radiant Floor Homes
I put radiant on my first floor and I would never live without now. Technology and boiler design are important. Old tech, copper:
, Mid tech, Heatway's glorified heaterhose , New tech, PEX

Re: Radiant Floor Homes
I am have been thinking of doing something similar. Changing out the baseboard heat in my house for a hydronic system. Probably not radiant heat, I'll save that for when I build.

Re: Radiant Floor Homes
They're quite common here, too. With all the interest in geothermal heat, in-floor ties right in.

Re: Radiant Floor Homes
I've been on small homes where they had installed electric radiant systems in the concrete floors. I've also watched tile guy install electric systems in bath under the tile. If you live in the natural gas zones, the systems are quite efficient $$$wise anyway. Oil is a little less or at least comparable to propane. Propane is ok if you purchase in large quantities.
We don't have the cold temps here to justify such elabortate systems, nonetheless, they're fun to watch being installed.
