Question from a painter
I'm currently a small (myself and 2 employees) painting contractor. We focus on both residential repaints and new residential construction. I'm currently looking for ways to get rid of the work thats not profitable as well as ways to grow my business. They work I'm looking to get rid of is these tiny projects where i spend more time in paperwork/consultations than i do on the job.
Our prices are usually on the high end of the scale but our work is as good as it gets in this area. We love painting new houses, but usually get a bum deal due to builders stacking trades in the house while we're trying to paint. We do have a few that treat us well and pay what I think is a fair price. These are the guys I'm looking to add services for.
Through talking with these guys, they all seem to be unhappy with their current drywall guys. THe complaints vary from poor communication to poor quality work(we're usually the ones complaining about the quality). Some of these guys had asked my if I'd be interested in doing their drywall and at the time i turned it down. Now I'm thinking if I can increase my services to these few contractors that it would displace some of our undesireable work.
My hope is that at the same time, the convienence of having one business finish and paint that I'll attract more quality contractors. The ones i already do business with are ready to go right away, but I'm wondering how this deal looks to other Builders/contractors.
Would you pay more for the convienence? Would I also need to hang drywall to make this worth your while? Is the benefit of one less sub to deal with a real bonus to you?
While I'm hear I'd also like to hear your comments and complaints about painters/drywallers? Anything i could do to make my business even more attractive to you? ANything I could do to really develop your loyalty?
Just in case you're wondering here's my list of demands LOL
1)adequate substrates- Surfaces that don't need to be repaired before I begin working
2)Adequate money- makes sense, right?
3)adequate time to do project - just ask I'll tell you how long
4)adequate working enviroment - clear house, free of other workers. How else am i supposed to be effecient and offer you the best price i can?
By the way, anyone on the Upper Eastern Shore of MD is welcome to contact me if you need a finisher/painter.
