Please Help Me To Start My Business

HELLO EVERYONE,

I AM NEW HERE.

I LIVE IN BROOLYN AND GOING TO START CONSTRUCTION BUSINESS.

I HAVE ALL KINDS OF WORKERS FOR IT.

I HAVE PROFESSIONAL TILE WORKER ( MY BROTHER ) AND ABOUT 10 OTHER PEOPLE TO START IT. THEY CAN DO ALMOST EVERYTHING. 3 OF THEM ARE SUPER PROFESSIONALS, CAN START TO BUILD HOME FROM ZERO AND CREAT ALL HOUSE !!!!.

15 YEARS EXPERIENCE. VERY RELIABLE PEOPLE AND ALL MY FRIENDS THAT WORK ON SOMEONE AND THEY ALL WANT ME TO CREATE A TEAM AND WORK TOGETHER.

PLEASE HELP WHOEVER CAN HELP ME IN ADVICE . WHAT I HAVE TO DO TO START IT ?? THANKS SO MUCH GUYS.

Well how bout when you finish reading you try to get a bowling team started and mingle at the bowling alley with all the other folk there handing out your cards ( not score card ) and try to drum up some business that way. If that don't work out try the bingo halls.

The best technicians (craftsmen, laborers etc) in the world cannot make a business because all you will have are a bunch of qualified guys sitting around playing pocketball waiting for the phone to ring.

Learn about business plans. Then write one.

Budget your money before you spend a nickel. Allot for slow times. Spend a good amount of money on advertising.

Learn how to sell and overcome objections.

Setup a network of support. Meet your banker. Find out what they will do for you. Get a good accountant. Run your contracts and disclaimers by an attorney. Meet with materials suppliers to find out whom will give you best terms and whom will be most likely to keep you in business.

Set up a business entity. Again a lawyer and accountant will guide you.

Get licensed and insured. Know what your WC classification is and what it will cost you to actually employ people.

Marketing Hire a designer to make professional looking business cards. Get your truck(s) logo'd

I'll stop there. If you have read this and think skipping any of those steps is okay, stay employed by someone else. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but a thousand hacks come and go every year in every trade. If you want to make this business happen, don't be one of them.

BTW spot on PP!!! I was in my field for 15 years before considering doing as an owner myself, and then spent 3 years putting it all together. Albiet I do not have a business plan on paper I do have a vision and a path laid out to reach it.

I find one thing pretty common to all service/trade oriented message boards that receive these kinds of threads.. the posters are not asking for advice, they are seeking validation. I do undertsand the excitement and apprehension one has when deciding to finally make a go of self employment or establishing a business. What kills the 90% of startups that fail is running on a dream versus a design. I wish throughout my business life I had forums like this one to research. It would have saved me a crapload of money and time spent spinning my wheels on trial and error.

Every time I see a Joe's Sport's Card's an Memorabilia sitting in some secondary shopping center without an anchor store I see a person that had a nice dream and probably had the knowlege to pick out and valuate sport's memorabilia but did not do research on picking a retail location. I see guys in my business complain that they cannot make it because they live in East Bumblephuck where every hick with a pickup also owns a pressure washer and sells $89 housewashes. Hello.. in a town of 3000 people and nothing but farmlands surrounding you for 20 miles, what did you expect?

If starobin got offended by what he read, then he positively was not cut out to be a business owner. We did him a huge favor. And while he may hate working for someone, he will have much less gray hair and stress in life working for that steady check.
