Plastering

Was just curious to know how popular is wet plastering is in the States, I understand that the vast majority of internal is dry wall and taped but what methods are used in older brick built constructions. Are plasterers that do Stucco, internal sand cement renders, skimminig and the like a rarity and are theese skills well rewarded? I am in Ireland b.t.w.

Re: Plastering

I actually have a freind from Ireland. He is a plasterer here in chicago and makes roughly $35/hour plus bennies.

Interior plaster finishes are still being run all over chicago. Normally over a blue board application the plaster is put roughly 1/8'' thick (basecoat and finish coat). There is also plenty of crown moulding being done here still not only with wood forms but also with latex and other rubber molds. Lots of venetian, marmarino and USG die colored finishes going on around here and PLENTY of different variations of stucco and their stucco finishes going on not only exteriorly but also on some interior designs. Hope this helps answer some questions.

By the way, it is a bit odd to see people using 3/4-1'' mud on walls on interior applications now, but you still do see it especially in those rooms that the owners want some better soundproofing and in many dome ceilings and niches.
