Permit Process Question...
I emailed an code person in a township I haven't worked in before in reference to doing a bathroom gut job, move fixtures and remodel w/ no structural changes. This is the response I got:
You are required to obtain a building permit application if you are making structural changes to the home or moving plumbing fixtures. You may pick up a building permit application at the Township office Mon., thru Fri., (9:00-5:00 P.M., closed 12-1:00 for lunch) or I would be happy to mail one to you and include a fee schedule. The permit will be a basic building permit only fill out what pertains to what you are doing. The fee is will be based on cost since your doing an alteration to the home. All inspections are included in the permit costs. The only time the Township may charge an extra fee is if you have a failed inspection. When submitting your building permit application you will need to include two detailed drawings showing wall detail and the layout of the bathroom showing waste and water lines, ect. If you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Thank you, ... questions about drawings: How do you do a layout of the supply and dwv lines when you really don't know what things are going to look like under the flooring including where in the wall the vent runs? How do you do wall detail when you don't know what the existing framing looks like? other questions: why the heck can't I change the font and font color back down here? |

Re: Permit Process Question...
We do if all the time the plumbing inspector will not check to see if the plumbing location/rough matches on the drawing just that it is done to code.
Same for the wall detail just put the correct detail unless you have to make a structural change it really wont affect you IF you have to make a structural change your suppose to modify the drawing and get approval for the change |

Re: Permit Process Question...
When I pull permits I use a before and after plan side by side, I only show where the existing fixture is and where the new on will be. I dont pretend to know how it is plumbed or electrical is run. I tell HO when we are complete with demo there is a walk thru to discuss existing conditions which are un safe or against current code.
