Is it ok to work on Sunday to cover my exposed home with plastic to protect from rain

CITY PERMIT: Yes
Location: Southern California

PROBLEM: It's sunday and the forecast shows rain for tonight.

I am making an addition to my home and am doing all the work myself. The roof hasn't been finished yet and I need to go up there and cover it with plastic. This requires light hammering and about 1 hour of work.

Can I work on sunday in this manner to protect my home from rain? The addition isn't complete which would allow the rain to pour into my house.

The reason I ask is that construction is not allowed on sundays. Does this count as construction?

There are usually exceptions for emergency repairs and if you are only up there for an hour you should be done before anyone gets annoyed.

Why? I'll bet that the quality of my work is hands down better than 90% of what's out there.

When the moderators wake up from their afternoon nap, one of them is going to boot your DIY'er butt.
